  • Not a huge amount to do in Ilfracombe but quite a lot close by, as someone else said damien hirst verity is down the front shes worth a look cant miss her lol, the aquarium from what I understand is pretty pointless its in the old lifeboat shed so can be walked round in about 20 mins, Combe Martins wildlife and Dinosaur park is quite good but a little pricey, the beaches there aren't sandy you will have to nip to Woolacombe. The place has had a lot of stick but on a lovely sunny day its can be very nice. I go every weekend with my two boys to visit Grandad their 6 and 4 and love it

Yes avoid the aquarium it's tiny.

    Woolacombe beach nearby is lovely.

You can have hours of entertainment pronouncing Ilfracombe as my nan did in 1950's when reading it on a map "Ill - Frack - combey", she hasn't been able to live it down yet...

That's great thank you, it's always good to get recommendations from someone who knows the area

Go to the tunnels (http://tunnelsbeaches.co.uk/index.html). We got married there 2 years (and 3 days ago). Besides the beach they have (had?) a small adventure playground and a decent enough cafe.

I imagine there will be a few wedding processions especially at the weekends. Lovely setting!

Oh and beware. It's laced with prostitution!

bicclescombe park is worth finding, hidden away off the main road, has a mill and tea rooms run by the community and has often things going on. There's a play area, lovely walks, tennis courts, gardens, a pond/stream.

There are loads of cafes, a full vegetarian cafe, although a bit prices does amazing food and drinks. Rainbow corner cafe/ chip shop offers good value, both in the high street. Depends on what you want as all offer different things.

There is a few things on, the landmark has various things, aquarium, the tunnels.Depends what you want.

    I came back Friday:

    - easy to get to, apart from the last 15 miles!

    - much more hilly than I/we expected, from either direction you go down to the centre, and down again to the harbour. Impossible to park in the 'town' - shopping area, and the harbour area is in the region of a £1.00 an hour!

    - the Sea Aquarium, was interesting - with the different fish of the area, especially as when we were there - it was feeding time for the main tank!

    - the Wildlife Park just past Combe Martin was excellent, but be warned some of the pathways are steep - it's set in a valley.

    - one day went to Bude in North Cornwall, about 24 miles past Bideford, lovely place - almost wish we picked there to stay, on the way back - had a meal in Morrison's Caf! in Bideford.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard
