Nit picking, but the fee is actually £450 + VAT as the completion of the SDLT form and acting for lender (shown on page two) should be part of the fee, rather than separately listed.

Reasonable, unless they come up with a load of unexpected costs at completion, as a few solicitors do.

Ah yes didn't see that, it's still a bargain and I think conveyancing fee's as are generally very low for professional services.

What needs to happen to improve the process as a whole is to automate the searches more and stop using snail mail.

Doesnt seem bad especially as that figure includes the Stamp Duty payment!

Ive just paid £1893 including all searches etc but I didn't have any SD to pay...probably a bit on the high side but he has been excellent and my family have used the same solicitors on a few other house purchases/sales so I knew they were good.

So I spoke to them and they said whilst the are cheaper out there, the service they provide is quality, plus there's services such as online tracking which I can use.

I also managed to get them to agree on a 'fixed' price so there won't be any nasty surprises along the way.
