    That's cheap. I paid £600 + VAT for my conveyancing solicitor on a £190k house purchase.

    Can I ask what you expected? Any time solicitors become involved the price is going to be high.

    Cheaper than £430. How much are you looking to cut the cost by?

    Sorry I am new to buying a house so I am completely on a different wavelength.

    I really don't know, I was expecting to pay a couple of hundred? 5 - 600 maximum??? :rotfl::rotfl:

    It's just bloody frustrating I just about barely scrapped the deposit together, now I've gotta find 1500 for stamp duty and another 1000 for solicitor fees. :rotfl::rotfl:

    Most of that cost was Stamp Duty - unless you negotiate a £25k cheaper price (to get under the threshold) you aren't going to be able to remove that as a 1% fee of purchase price payable.

    £1,935 is disbursements. These are costs that the solicitor incurs but makes no profit on, merely recharges to you the actual cost.

    So irrespective of the solicitor used, these are fixed costs.

    Yeah, person who I spoke to said that it would be fixed costs.

    So you reckon this quote is ok then? Could i get it a couple of hundred quid cheaper? :rotfl:
  • That's reasonable and what you should expect to pay.

    The bulk of the cost is stamp duty and costs they have to pay out.

    That price is pretty fair to be honest. You might be able to get it a little bit cheaper but im not even talking £100 - maybe half that. Is it really worth the hassle of hunting around and spending hours on this to save next to nothing in the grand scheme of things?

    I would be pretty happy with that quote.

    Many thanks for the responses guys, I'll just stick with them considering everyone seems to say that is a fair price and as mention above, no point paying less and you get some cowboys and they mess around and miss something vital. Quality over price any day.

    Many thanks
