Several years ago I got a bike for my daughter it was then passed down to her little sister and now just last week she has out grown it.

She doesnt want to part with it yet! :rotfl: but when she's ready I'm going to give it away just as I got it!

Have had some wonderful things from Freecycle:

    * Loads of craft items - usually come as a job lot but have always been
    lucky with this
    * An absolutely beautiful Edwardian style solid oak chest of drawers - not a
    mark on it!
    * An almost new Parker Knoll recliner armchair with new spare covers
    * An almost new Hitachi DVD plaer
    * An almost new Hitachi video player to match above
    * A silver coloured TV/DVD combi portable
*About a million (!) labels of various styles and sizes - must be well in
excess of several thousands, some even in new unopened boxes
    * About 1000+ paper clips of various colours and sizes - great for crafting
    and general use

LOVE freecycle, no you do not always get what you ask for but that is the luck of the draw - makes you grateful when you are lucky.

The only thing that spoils it for me are the mods on our site, they are dictatorial and rude. eg i put a post on once and put my full postcode by mistake instead of just the first part. Now if that was me, and I was a moderator on 2 internet forums for many years. i'd have just removed the second part of the postcode and put it on. Not these people. got a curt email saying "NO FULL POSTCODE!" And I had to redo it LOL Another time I asked for a washing machine inlet hose saying ours has broken. Got a message saying DO NOT PUT REASONS WHY NEEDED and had to redo! *Rolls eyes* What makes me laugh is even though they are little sergeant majors, they cannot differentiate between your and you're!! lmao. I'd love to correct it for them ;)

From what I can recall new moderators have to go to mod school for a few weeks, get told certain rules that they "must" obey so that Freecycle can keep its Freecycle name as it is etc.

Had numerous small bits but struck it lucky about 5 years ago with a metro. Was a K reg, but was owned by a vicar, only had about 15000 on the clock, mint condition, full service history, 11 months tax. It was a godsend at the time (excuse the pun).

The ones on ours are just really rude though. No friendliness or anything! :D

Been with local freecycle and freegle for some years, I think (hope) I've given more than received but my best received were a dresser top which now painted off white and distressed hangs on my kitchen wall, very shabby chic, and a sheesham sideboard with jali doors. polished up it's drawn many complements and I love it!
Strangest one was receiving a lawn mower when mine went to the great lawn in the sky. A couple of years later I offered it, having bought a new one, and I offered it to a lady whose mower had gone the same way. When she came to collect it, she was the lady who gave it to me in the first place!
  • I have not got anything for myself, have on behalf of a client, but have given quite a bit. Best one for me was a huge box of embroidery threads, recipient was thrilled with the story behind it. Recipient suffers from life limiting illness so tries to raise as much money as possible for the cause and was looking for some threads. My brother had bought a vintage trunk at an auction unopened, to his surprise, it was absolutely filled to the brim of wonderful fabrics and threads and most poignant of all, a wedding dress, unworn, and all with the same colour clarity as the day they were dyed. He knew that it had belonged to an elderly spinster, so we can only assume that it was her wedding trousseau and that she had sadly lost the love of her life in the war.

I hope that she knows that her sorrow brought joy 70 years later.

Don't know what you mean about your post being deleted - you have 2 above here.

My posts might be taken as not being friendly too, because they are in the main pre written, to the point and exact about what the member needs to do (or not), for when I have to reject a post etc.
Some members really p1$4 you off in the way they act, post or totally ignore anything they are told, which after time does lead us to being an untrusting grumpy old git. :rotfl:

I had some spare young plants and a lovely chap drove from 4 towns away for them. This was a few years ago. He brought me a mint cutting which has since provided mint plants for everyone I work with.
Trying to make the money last the month.
