Free Ntl Broadband Upgrade

Options
i happened to call NTL with a account query and was advised that i was entitled to a free upgrade from my 750kbs to a wapping 2Mb...but i need a engineer to come round and either supply me with a new silver set top box,(cos i also have tv from NTL) or to fit a new modem....so a few questions spring to mind,,,,,is there a catch,,,,,,,am i better off with a new set top box or a new modem which works independent of the set top box, the guy on the phone did suggest the seperate modem was better cos it would allow me to run 2 computers off it,,,,,,any feedback would be most welcome. i did read the post below regarding ntl and loooking on the ntl site does answer some of those questions,,,, the note below is interesting that ive pasted from the ntl site....

What happens if I reach my usage allowance?

Customers with the existing services or 2Mb & 3Mb (1GB per day)
Ntl reserves the right to contact customers who regularly exceed their daily usage allowance, where such excessive use impacts the quality of service for other ntl broadband customers.

Customers with the 1Mb service (3GB per month)
Ntl will be monitoring across the network to identify customers who routinely exceed their data allowance, but not enforcing this allowance until later in 2005.
Before that time, ntl will be deploying new capabilities that will allow each customer to view their usage levels. Thereafter, customers who exceed their data allowance in any given month will be given options, which may include, for example, the ability to:

Upgrade to a tier of service with a higher usage limit
Choose to be billed for any incremental usage above their limit
Choose to use the service for the remainder of the month at a lower speed

For further information on usage allowances please

No catch - your cap won't change if you're on 750 and get upgraded to 2MB, it still works out at 1GB a day. Of course it's somewhat easier to use your daily allowance with a faster speed!

I would say a seperate cable modem is better. It means if your set top box goes down (I've had 2 blow on me now) then your internet won't. Also it means your pc can be sited away from your set top box, although that would also probably require them to install a new terminal... the engineer might if you're nice to him!

    Hope this helps,
    N.
