in Water bills
Hi,
I searched the forum but cant find anything that resolves my dilemma
basically I was living in a rented house with my ex partner and when we split up I left her with the rental deposit to sort out any depts. on water/gas & electric
after moving out a few months later I received a call from dept agency saying I owed money on gas and electric....she had not paid and kept the money as I didn't want to get in trouble with dept company and courts I paid
yesterday I received a dept letter (2 &half years after moving out) from a company working on behalf of Anglian water stating I owe £200 for a water bill
its very annoying but I don't want to get in trouble with courts. the bill was in both our name (me and ex partner)
what I wanted to know legally is it all my responsibility or just half>?

You are jointly and severally liable for the whole bill. Not half.
If you gave your ex money for the bills and she spent it elsewhere, then you can of course make a civil claim against her to recover it. But that is your issue and no concern of AW. They don't care who pays, and will come after either or both parties.
PS: it's debt.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
