Can you suggest a car please?

We are looking to buy a second car. I currently do around 22000 miles per annum, mainly long journeys.
My two main requirements are that it has good petrol consumption as I really want to get my fuel bill down. I have 3 children, ages 15, 12 and 8 and want them to be comfortable so decent leg room is needed. Therefore, I don't want a really tiny car, just something which would seat 4 people comfortably (my 15 year old can sit in the front). Low maintenance costs would also be useful.
In an ideal world it would have 2 easily accessible cup holders, bluetooth and iPod connectivity.
Can anyone recommend a vehicle please?
Thanks.

Hi have you looked into the insurance costs as you will not be able to use your no claims discount on this second car.
This may mean that you have to look at cars that are cheaper to insure which may restrict your choice.0 -
knowing how much you want to spend would be good?
from experience, 2004 civic diesel used to get me 60mpg doing 70 on motorways, room a plenty for 4 adults, has a convenient cup holder to right of steering wheel, 2 in centre console and 1 at back of centre console near the floor.
as for bluetooth/ipod connectivity, i replaced the original Honda stereo with an Alpine unit.
OR, 2005 Civic onwards, again very spacious, 2.2 diesel engine gets 50-55 mpg at 70. cup holders arent as frequent as the previous civic, however i bought a 58 plate EX model which has bluetooth (or Honda Hands Free as they call it) to pair my phone with. As for connecting my ipod, i will be installing an icelink device to the stereo, or it can be done by specialists for £150.
the 09 onwards civics had connection ports in the glovebox.
look at Mondeo and Octavia also, many fans of them on here...0 -
Thanks everyoen.
I know this will sound ridiculous, but I hadn't really thought of budget. Would probably need to pay monthly rather than the whole thing in one go. Last time we put the car on a 0% credit card and then paid it off monthly, moving the balance around until it was finally paid off. Just finished paying for my bathroom, kitchen and sofa, so could probably manage around £350 a month.
I think a Galaxy would be too big. I have a Mazda 5 at the minute and don't need 2 big cars. Have had a Mondeo in the past and absolutely loved it. However, I was thinking of something a bit smaller. Although the boys would be in it for the school run (12 mile round trip), a lot of the time I am in the car on my own.0 -

My best friend had a Focus and got rid of it because she said the MPG was really poor. Don't know which engine size. The most important thing to me is a car with really good MPG.0 -
My Diesel Scenic was amazing for MPG any very roomy0

How many miles per year do you anticipate doing in it as a second car? Fuel economy may very well not be as important as you think...0
