I'm with the majority here in either ignoring any further contact from him unless its from his solicitor - though it is tempting to just tell him where to go :p. I don't believe he has a leg to stand on complaining about something that happened 2 years ago and he confirmed he was satisfied with at the time, he's just trying it on. I'm no expert but the whole threat of legal action sounds like total nonsense. At the end of the day it all comes down to what is 'reasonable' and you have all the evidence you need to show that you have behaved reasonably and he has done just the opposite.

OP - you don't have a thing to worry about, stop responding to him, just sit back and let him work himself into a lather and report any further abuse to the police. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

No solicitors involved as the dispute is too small and costs would be irrecoverable.

Obviously no one in their right mind would use a solicitor for something like this, but the OP is dealing with someone who is not playing with a full deck, so anything is a possibility.

Don't give him a penny. He asked for work to be carried out to his specification. That work was completed as per requirements.

The work was paid for. 2 years is not a reasonable amount of time to come back and try and get a refund.

Tell him to sling his hook.
  • Well, I'm amazed at the fantastic response, support, sound advice (and a good laugh) I've had on here - thank you all, it's really appreciated.
    I've decided to:
    a) keep on filtering any emails from him into a separate folder for evidence.
    b) any more abusive emails and Plod gets a visit.
    c) only communicate via officialdom, if/when the need arises.
    d) fight all the way; no way is that twunk getting anything out of me.
    e) if/when the time comes, throw in my counter claim for good measure.

    Will update...

If what you do really is a very small community, I would make sure that I warned the other repairer/restorers in case mad customer decides to contact them.

I'd ignore him. If it did ever transpire that I had to refund him, I would send him a turd in the post.

Delighted you've taken my advice Kittenonthekeys (ignoring everyone else who said the same thing afterwards :D:D)

I'm intrigued to see the outcome too

I like that idea (I'm referring to the first one, although the second is pretty good too :D) but if I did manage to warn the others, could that be construed as libel?
