You might find this thread interesting, unless you think Terabyte drives are a bit over the top and too dear. Mind you, I always say you can never have too much storage

I got this one and it's great http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008PSEWRG/ref=pe_217191_31005151_M3C_dp_10

If you want to save even more money on an external hard drive; instead of buying one that's already in an enclosure. Get a hard drive enclosure case (they cost as little as $30) and then get a regular internal hard drive.
The good thing about doing this is you generally get around 2 to 3 times more disk space for the same price.0 -
you get more value per gig on the bigger drives, but if its important stuff you need to keep then 2 smaller drives would be better with regular backups to both, a friend dropped an external 3.5 drive and it died.
ive got one of these but on usb 2, carry it around all the time never a problem, keep it in a £5 hard case,

Is that one the same as this one from Amazon, but £9 cheaper?

The other advantage of going with an external enclosure and drive separately is you can guarantee that when the USB interface dies, you'll be able to take the drive out and put it in another enclosure (or directly into a PC) and get at your data.
Some manufacturers, most notably Western Digital, have started pulling stunts like building the USB interface directly into the hard drive and/or building encryption into the USB interface such that the drive is unreadable once removed from the enclosure.0 -
If you don't need it to be portable then this Seagate 2TB drive is incredibly good value.0
