Strange, frozen picture on Sky+ box

I was watching The Closer on Sky last night and just before a break the picture froze for a few seconds, so I missed what Brenda said as she walked out of her office door.

So I rewound to a few seconds before it froze and pressed play and the picture and sound replayed back perfectly.

I would have expected something like that if I was watching a recording, not when watching it live.

My box has done this a few times before but I had never rewound to see if the recording was better than the live transmission.

Strange.

Was it raining heavily at the time?

It's just like when you watch something on Youtube, if it's a bit ropey and unable to stream it fast enough to watch it, pausing will buffer enough to allow normal viewing sometimes.
Next time you have issues, try just pausing for a few minutes and watch from there

No, but I would have thought if there was a problem with reception it would have recorded the pause as well.

Just like years ago when recording to VHS video, if there was a glitch or hiccup that was recorded as well.

I just wondered why the pause was not recorded.

If I had been recording the program from the TV like I used to do, it would have recorded the pause as well.

With Sky+ you are always watching a recording, albeit with no delay. That's why you can pause it and rewind etc. Sound more like a box glitch to me.

Absolute cobblers - the only times you watch a recording are when using "live pause" etc or are "chase playing" a recording. At the same time as you are watching the live transmission a buffer recording is made to the HDD to enable the "live rewind" etc.
  • Could it have been a fault with the TV then?

    32 in Sony Bravia.

Probably a glitch with the Sky box, have you tried turning it off and on again? ( At the wall )

You're probably right, the Series 1 TiVo worked like that, bad assumption on my part.
