Mobile Advice Lumia 620 V G510 a few questions

Ok, I'm considering a nearly new Lumia 620 from Virgin or a new Hauwei G510 from Vodafone.

I would want to use an existing Orange sim for a few months, would this work in the Virgin phone as I understand they use the Orange network, or would I need to get this unlocked? I've seen unlocking offered on ebay at around the £30 mark? Has anyone had a Nokia Lumia 620 unlocked any recommendations as the ebay ones don't appear to be UK based (although found some in Ireland).

G510 would need to be unlocked which seems straight forward enough at a fiver on ebay. Any advice or recommendations from anyone thats done it? Any custom roms to get rid of the vodafone stuff? Although this isn't a pressing requirement, I can always wait on it becoming available / decent guides becoming available, they might already be availble I've not looked as its not a deal breaker to be honest.

I have been really impressed with a Lumia 800 that I've had a go on, and I fancy trying a windows phone, although not sure I can get all the apps I currently use on my Android (which isn't a huge amount). I can see myself ending up with both which isn't very MSE.

You would. AFAIK, Virgin sim is likely to work in Orange phone, but not vise versa.
  • It could be your lucky day !

Carphone Warehouse will sell you a Nokia 620 for £125.95 and although sold as Orange is 99% certain to be unlocked.

Try the PAYG upgrade checker, if your current SIM is PAYG and qualifies you will get the phone in store for £109.95 at the moment.

This may not last long though.
