Mobile Phones Direct

Looking at mobile phones on this web site and looking at the returns policy. It seems to be saying that if a new mobile goes wrong after 7 days of receiving the item it has to be returned to the manufacturer for repair.

Surely under the uk trading laws as the retailer they are responsible during a reasonable warranty period for getting a defective mobile repaired? If this is the case why do they state this in their FAQ?

Thanks.

Brian

    To make their life easier?

Yes, this is the case, but they don't have to teach you the law. Good for you that you know it.

That may be correct but it is usually much quicker if you send it to the manufacturer yourself than if you return it to the retailer and they then send it to the manufacturer.

There are also manufacturer authorised third party repairers who are usually very quick.

I sent a mobile back to 'eblast' at 11am on a Monday morning and it was returned , repaired under warranty, at 10 am on the Wednesday morning.

The main reason to go through the retailer would be so there is a record of repairs carried out if you have re-occurring problems.

Although many phones returned however are not actually 'faulty' but consist of a mixture of physical damage and software related issues caused by loading dodgy or incorrect software.

If the warranty is 12 months and you contact the manufacturer first, I think you lose you rights for SoGA protection that is not limited by 12 months.

Thank you guys. Between the two of you I think you covered the main pros and cons of buying from Mobile Phones Direct.

I suppose it's a case seeing if the advantages of a deal they offer out weighs the inconvience and slight risk if there is a problem.

It seems it's not just Mobile Phones Direct - I found that 3 tried this when I had a faulty iphone that was 3 months old (I signed up direct with 3 for the contract). I decided not to resist and took it to an Apple store and received a replacement there & then. It might not be legally correct from 3, but worked out better for me in that I got what I wanted, quickly
