Orange Signal

I have had a contract with orange for over a year now and in the past 4 weeks have not been able to send text messages when at home (although my phone says I have full signal).
More recently, I have not been able to make calls either.
Both myself and my partner are on Orange and are having exactly the same problem.
We have both made numerous calls (annoyingly on our land line so having to pay for being on hold for hours!) and they have yet to come up with a solution other than 'hills'!
I asked for compensation as I am paying for a service which I am not receiving ie Orange are not forfilling their half of the contract and was declined because apparently they can't guarantee signal everywhere. However, this problem has only occurred in the past 4 weeks .. there must be a reason for this?
Where do I stand as a consumer? Am i supposed to just accept it or do I have any sort of rights in terms of ending the contract prematurely?

You accept the terms you agreed - and lack of signal is allowed. That said, check your phones - are they set to automatically search for networks or simply Orange?
EE are merging the GSM networks of Orange and T-Mobile, so this may explain why something has changed.0
