Back up the contacts now then.The phone may continue to work OK, but if water has got in then corrosion may have commenced and will eventually kill it.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The phone will do texts but not calls (will make them but recipient cannot hear) so it is not working properly.
Probably time to upgrade his phone then!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

If you throw away that phone, throw away the sim, take out a new contract and new Android phone that's completely unrelated to the old one, but activate it with the same google account, then all your contacts will be there again.0
