Extra leg room seats

Hi, I've booked up to go away with my partner in August and after our last flight we decided to pay for extra leg room on the flights. Got an email today saying we could now reserve our seats which was great, when I clicked on the seats we wanted a message came up giving a bunch of rules on who can sit in these extra leg room seats and it turns out if you are overweight you cannot sit in them i.e your height not proportioned to your weight.
I am 5"11 and 23 and a half stone so I am definitely not proportionate. Is this something the airlines take very seriously or if i reserved these seats and wandered onto the plane I'd be okay.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks.

The way the rules are enforced varies around the world but I think (as it seems you do) that 23+ stone maybe a tad overweight.0

Not disputing my size I am just asking if anyone bigger has used them in the past and if I can't use these seats what's my next move.0

I think the reasoning behind that is that they won't allow you to use a seatbelt extender in emergency exit rows. I suppose it depends on how sure you are the seatbelt will fasten. Exit row seats are sometimes narrower than other seats because the arm-rest contains the tray-table.
What airline and route is it?

They might also think if you're over weight you won't be able to move quickly enough to open the door in an emergencyAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

If these extra leg room seats are at emergency exits then if you book them you will be asked to move as they require people who are fit and able to help in an emergency. They would also require very young, very old, blind, deaf people not to sit in the emergency seats so its not just to do with your size.0

It is with Thomson airline and it is the glasgow to alicante route.0 -
Yes this is true. You definitely can't have an extra legroom seat if you are visibly overweight, whether or not you need an extension seatbelt, on most airlines.
It is because usually the extra legroom seats are close to the emergency exits and if you're overweight you are considered to be unable to help others and even to be likely to impede the escape of others.
It's no good wandering onto the plane and hoping they won't notice - they will. Then you will be asked to move and give everyone else something to gawp at.
As regards your next move...unfortunately you will just have to cram yourself into a standard seat and grin and bear it like the rest of us.
Sorry just saw the post above mine.
Is it going to be a long flight?0 -
Can you sit in 1D, E or F?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

On a recent Thomson flight thr attendants had to ask a morbidly obese person to move out of the seats next to the emergency door.
She was really reluctant to move and was loudly protesting. The flight attendant explained that she was too fat to sit there, and posed a risk to all of the other passengers, but she still wouldn't move, the flight attendant had to threaten her with being wobbled off the flight before she eventualy moved.0 -

Nonsense - plenty of 'visibly overweight' people sit in exit seats everyday, I did when I was bigger. The only time it causes a problem is when you are obese to the extent you would be a hindrance in the case of an emergency. It does sound like the OP would fall into this category.0
