Yes, the one we've found is the one he went to the USA on, basically the ONLY entry in any of his passports AFAIK!

You should send the passport, with a covering letter, to the passport office. They will mark it as recovered against his lost report. When you replaced it you would have received a letter telling you what to do if you found it.

If you do nothing, nothing will happen. It is not going to come into use again unless you use it yourselves, cut the corner off and keep it.

Lost a passport once, and it was the one where I had done most of my global travel. Was absolutely gutted. It is 15 years ago, and still wish I had it.

I'm sure we did, but if you think a man who can lose his driving licence AND his passport on separate occasions, and then realise he can't find his EHIC card (which was with the missing passport) can find the letter which came with the new passport, you're more optimistic than I am ...

BTW, he's also misplaced a wallet with a variety of loyalty cards in, and he can never find the credit cards he's supposed to keep for holiday use. They're all 'in a safe place'.

He doesn't have a 'spare' the lost passport is now cancelled and if its used it will be flagged up at immigration. You really don't want to be travelling on a cancelled passport. Additional passports are a totally different matter - issued to frequent business travellers and under strict guidelines. Not everyone is entitled to one.

I am a business traveller, but this isn't the reason I have two.

I have Israeli visa stamps in one, and Palestinian in the other, for reasons very separate from my company.

If I were you, I'd mention to the Home Office it's been found, and there's a probability they'll ask for it. It's better than being in possession of a passport, that whilst I'm not positive of the legislation, is marked as lost.

I'm filling in a passport form at the moment and the guidance booklet says:

"We will cancel your lost or stolen passport once we have received the LS01 form. If you later find the passport which you reported lost or stolen, you must return it to us. You will no longer be able to use the passport. You may be held by the immigration authorities or the police if you try to do so.

We will cancel and destroy any passport that is found and sent to us."

A little birdy told me that a UK passport is worth $5,000

Not so sure eBay allows their resale though :D
