Passport lost and replaced, now found - what to do?

Options
DH lost his passport a couple of years ago, so we replaced it.

He's now found the missing one, which I know he can't use, and I'm fairly sure he should return it to the Passport Office. However despite browsing their web pages I can't find instructions for this.

Anyone know? Is there a form to fill in? I found the one for if he'd died ...

Also found his EHIC card, lost at the same time, now replaced, do I return that or just tell them we found it, or just shred it?

Could cheerfully throttle him at holiday times, another time he lost his paper driving licence just before a holiday and had to pay to replace that (although that hasn't yet turned up!)

I think I would destroy it thoroughly, preferably by burning, and no one will be any the wiser. Doesn't seem to be any advantage in posting it anywhere or spending your time looking for Passport office procedures. Use the new passport and enjoy your holidays!

Not possible atm, I have lost my voice (completely!) and he won't have time while at work.

BTW, we're not due another holiday until August, and then I don't think we need passports as we're only going to the Isle of Man!

I would just cut the corner off and put it with all the other expired passports I've kept. Can't see what risk that would pose, he's not going to travel on it, no-one else can travel on it with the corner cut off, seems a waste to send it back to them.

I don't see the dilemma to be honest. Just put it in the cupboard.

Does anyone know what happens with your old passport when you renew? I'd want to keep mine.

They send it back, with the corner cut off. I think they do this without you asking, it comes quite quickly (before the new one).

Excellent. Mine is completely full with stamps/visas and it would be nice to keep them to look back on.

Yes, I have 2 blue ones and one red one with the corners removed, and I had to examine stamps in the blue ones just the other day to try to work out what dates I arrived in and left New Zealand over 20 years ago, so defintely worth hanging on to.
