i also kind of did something along these lines with my phone company once
i had ben with them over 12 months so was out of contract with them but still had my services if you get me
an amazing offer came out so i called an asked to be put on it as it would save me 20 pounds a month
they said sorry its to new customers only so i said well im ending my contract with you to rejoin on a new contract so you can either go through the rigmaroll of sending me final bill an taking back my equipment or just give me the offer they said well yoy have to wait so many days blah blah i said thats fine as i can open it in my partners name the same day you cut me off
in the end they just put me on the new deal
its is all about money saving as best you can and i dont see anything wrong in some suggestions0 -

Go and re-buy it this weekend at the cheaper price. Keep it in the car boot and take it back half an hour (or a day or so) later with THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT.
This is fine, it's your receipt and you are returning an unwanted item under their policy. But you must do the return by the 28th day.
Even if you bought it online you can maybe order another one in time to return it to your nearest store as unwanted, with your ORIGINAL proof of purchase. I think the store might take back items ordered online but I don't have experience of this.
hm,if you are so sure it,s ok to do this why dont you explain to the shop what you are doing.see what they say.and as for the comment about mse,rs if you dont like us go join another board.0 -
I may be tempted to take the original receipt to the Customer Service desk and say 'it's now cheaper, and I'm annoyed as I'm a really good customer' and you may find they give you the difference as a good will gesture anyway.
But, I'm not sure buying another, then returning the original with the new receipt is fraud, though it does set off my moral compass....0 -
This is different - you are returning the EXACT item for which the receipt if for (not *swapping* them)
Well done you :T
The trampoline receipt is for exactly the same item - A TRAMPOLINE!!!!!!!!!!
Money is better in customers pockets than Superstores. They will still be selling that item at a profit so no-one will lose out.He/she hasn't done anything wrong, the only thing they are guilty of is being money conscious and thats what this whole website is about isn't it?!!I can only please one person per day.Today is not your day.Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.0 -

You are missing the point.
It is NOT the exact same item. The reciept is for the trampoline bought at £99, the trampoline she is returning is the one she paid £64 for!!!
The receipt does NOT relate to the EXACT item she is trying to gain a refund on!!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -

OK I have read all your comments and had a giggle at some of them. Here are 2 scenarios which would give you moral nightmares then....
Example 1
Now what would you do, say, if you had to buy a certain book or gift for a nephew's birthday, so off you went and bought it. Little did you know your OH went out and bought the same thing earlier that day, you only discover this when you get home and show each other the books.
While you discuss what to do, both books are sitting there on the kitchen table. 'Oh, I will take mine back for a refund' you say - but OMG you can't tell which one was 'your' book!!!!!!!
Example 2
You buy a t-shirt but it's the wrong size, so you go back and exchange it for the right size (the receipt remains unchanged). Then you get home and later you change your mind about your purchase. This is OK because you've bought it from Asda and they have a 28 day returns policy. But OMG, it's NOT the EXACT same item that the receipt relates to!!!!!!!!!
Geddit? SAME ITEM, doesn't matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

....but why am I not surprised that someone on MSE thinks that taking an unopened item back with your own receipt within the store's own 28 day policy is 'fraud'
.
If it is then I commit fraud every December by doing this after xmas, and I also did so this week in Sainsburys by rebuying clothing I had recently bought, because it's currently reduced 25% off (or in your book I will be committing fraud when I take the unused items back with MY original receipt later).
IMHO this is how moneysavers SHOULD shop!:T
I have to say I agree with you, I have done the same before myself.MFW - We've only gone and blooming done it!May 2013:j0 -

lol i love how folk r trying to point out it matters sod all if its the EXACT item you bought, point is, its the same thing they r selling... I do it a lot with clothes :rotfl: and you know what...i reckon if u said to a member of staff in tesco, asda wherever u shop they would say " good on you, i bloody would too for £35!".... i say this, as when i worked in Tescos id have said the exact same :T0 -
I think you should TOTALLY do as suggested, it isn't fraud in the slightest and £35 is £35! I'd do it!Probaby Trying To Be A Good Girl And Stop Shopping! :T

HELP PLEASE - Do tesco have two policies? Online and in store???
I recently purchased my shopping online and was sent an automated receipt stating the prices paid - It stated uncle bens long grain rice 500g £1.12 but on the actual receipt recieved on the day it stated a price of £1.28
I emailed Tesco and received a 'bog standard' reply (see below*). I emailed them again to say it does not relate to a weighed item but to a prepacked item. Again I receive the same email below. I re-email them and receive the reply:
"I would like to apologise again for any difficulty you may have encountered with your order.
I have now refunded £0.16 back into your account for the following items. This should appear within the next few days.
QTY Description
1 UNCLE BENS LONG GRAIN RICE 500G
Thank you again for contacting us, and I look forward to your continued custom with us."
I emailed them to say that I thought when you were overcharged you received a credit and the product for free (I wasn't aware of the new policy then).
They replied:
" We have recently amended this when it comes to an overcharge, and the new policy is:
In the unlikely event that we charge you more than the price shown on the shelf or on the product, we?ll give you double the difference.
I hope this information will be of some help. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. "
Ok, I thought so I should receive double the difference and not just the difference - hence I email them to ask that they do this and not just refund the differnce as previously promised.
But then I got this reply:
" Thank you for your reply.
I'm very sorry, our refund policy applies in our stores for the overcharge, but anything purchsed online, then the refund is just the difference, and not double. "
I of course have emailed them to ask for the link to where it states this online and have yet to receive a reply.
Does anyone know if this is true????
* " I'm sorry you're unhappy with the amount showing on your order confirmation email. Please let me explain why it was different from what you expected.
When you placed your order the amount you were given, as the total cost of your shopping, was a guide price only. There are a few reasons why your original online total may be different from the amount charged by your delivery store.
We can only give an estimated price on our website for loose fruit and vegetables and for fresh meats and cheeses that are individually weighed and priced. The correct prices for these items can only be charged when they are picked and scanned on the day of your delivery.
Any items you ordered that where not available on the day of delivery, or were substituted, will also affect your final total.
Although we try hard to maintain our website so that our prices online match the prices in-store, there can be daily price changes, so we can't always guarantee they'll be exactly the same.
We deduct any valid special offers and multi-savers before we charge your payment card and your delivery documents will always show the price charged for each item and your final total cost.
I'm sorry you were disappointed on this occasion. Thank you for taking the time to ask us about this. "0
