DFS and HFC PPI Trouble

Hi, I wonder if anybody could help me with this one.

Some time early last year my mum realised she had been mis-sold PPI when she bought her settee through DFS. She has written to DFS and they have agreed to pay her the money back. That’s all fine. But before they give her any money back they are wanting a statement from the bank showing what money she has paid for the settee. She has written to HFC Bank on numerous occasions and had absolutely no response from them.

My question is, should she file a complaint with the Ombudsman? If so, who should it be against, DFS or HFC?

Help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

How long ago did she purchase the sofa?

I ask this as I also have claim in with Dfs. I havent heard from them and wondered how long it took for your mum to get a responses

    Cheers
  • She bought it in 2006. When she wrote to them initially, she got a quick response, by telephone but they are refusing to pay anything to her until they get a statement.

    Thx

Mine is from 2001. Deffo wont have bank statements from then!

Sure they will try to wiggle out of it if they can

Does ur mum bank online. If so, download bank statements showing payments?

My statements are still there online from 2007

    Hope that helps

I also tried to reclaim from dfs, but was unsuccessful, their reason being, I had signed the agreement, I didn't pursue it further, but on hindsight the ppi was not necessary.

She needs to obtain staements form her bank if she can. If they aren't avaialble online, she will have to send a SAR and £10 to the bank specifically asking for the statements. It's possible they no longer exist. Or she can go to a branch and ask them how she can get hold of them.
