Help with hairdresser please.

I have a friend who usually comes and cuts our hair at home but my 14yr old DD has a christening this sunday and my friend wouldn't be able to cut it in time so I sent her to the local hairdresser with my niece who is the same age.

Her hair is just longer than shoulder length and all she wanted was a trim and to have it thinned a bit. The hairdresser told her that because of the length it would have to be a cut and blow dry and it would cost £22. Being a teenager with now sense of monetary value she went ahead and got it cut.

She has just came home and you wouldn't know that she had been to the hairdresser, it doesn't look any shorter except at the back where the bottom has been layered slightly and the bottom of the hair is not straight. It doesn't feel as though it has been thinned very much either.

My niece who had longer hair had about 2inch taken off hers and had it layered and they took £20 off her, although it was another hairdresser that cut hers.

She also told my daughter that the reason she has greasy hair is because she needs a good hair dryer and to tell me to take her to salon services and buy her a decent one. She already has a good vidal sasson hair dryer and I fail to see what that has to do with her hair being greasy, I always thought that because she was a hormone raging teenager that's why her skin and hair were a bit greasy but now I know better, lol.

I'm so angry that they seem to have taken advantage of two young girls but i'm not the confrontational type, my DH however is and wants to take her back tomorrow and complain.

Do you think he should? I think my DD would be too embarrased to do this. Do you think I have grounds to complain? I know that I feel that i've been ripped off but it's been so long since I went to a hairdressers that I don't know what a reasonable price would be.

The bit about greasy hair made me laugh. I'm 40+ and still wash my hair daily because it gets greasy. Must get a new hair dryer. Hairdressing tutor at local college told me it was too much testosterone that causes greasy hair in females.

Re the hair cut. I wouldn't go in all guns blazing but ring and ask to speak to the manager. Request that they check your DD hair because it doesn't appear to have been properly layered and the ends are uneven.

I have taken my DD back, even though I only paid £5 at the local hair college for a wash and cut. Her hair was waist length and one length so the uneven sloping ends showed up badly. The tutor didn't mind at all and showed the students why it had gone wrong so they would learn from their mistakes.

I have also complained to hairdressers about my own hair - that's why I now go to the Hair and Beauty college. I was fed up with lopsided cuts, colours that didn't take and even a spiral perm that missed about 1/4 of my hair (this was in the 80's:o ). Remember you don't ever have to set foot in the place again after you've complained. Tell the manager you would rather complain to her face and give her the chance to rectify than bad mouth her behind her back, which could affect her business.

The hairdryer bit made me laugh too. The thing is my DH knows the owner from years ago so I think I would let him handle it but I think my DD would be too embarrased to go back.

Had a few hair disasters myself in the past including sitting for 3hrs to have my hair permed in a very expensive hair salon for my brothers wedding in the 80's but when I got home I hated the way they'd styled it. I went in to the bathroom as soon as I got home and washed it and the perm went totally flat. Had to go back the next day and sit another 3 hours.

A hairdryer can give you greasy hair?!?! I'm no hairdresser, but as an engineer, I really can't see the physics behind how a hairdryer can make your hair any more or less greasy! Anyway, here's some greasy hair advice taken from my quick google about grease and hairdryers! :D

    GREASY HAIR

Try to avoid daily washing. The sebaceous glands are overstimulated, secreting more grease onto the hair. This creates a vicious circle where the more you wash is the greasier it becomes.

Another problem with regular washing is that although the roots are greasy the rest of your hair is stripped of oil and the ends become dry and brittle. Use a mild ph-balanced shampoo and wash hair without rubbing the scalp too much. Only apply conditioner to the mid and ends rather than at the roots.

Watch your diet. Oily and fatty foods can contribute to greasy skin and scalp. Best of all is to use those days when you're at home to give your hair a rest from daily washing. Try using a children's shampoo as these are often mild enough for greasy hair.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

To tell your child to come home and ask you for another haridryer is terrible! Im guessing this new fandagled hairdryer would not be cheap eithier! On top of that its utter bo@@@ks!

I would complain tbh, about the haircut and the poor service these girls recivied!

Ive complained before. I went in for a trim and came out with hair so short i cried! I called back the next day and said how upset i was and the kind lady apologised and offered a free haircut, there was not much hair left to cut so i declined and she gave me a full refund! I made my mum go get the refund though! LOL

That is cheaper than most of the hairdressers near me, however the service if the cut is not right should be complained about. I would personally to save DD being embarrassed, go without her, complain there and then explaining about the cut, service etc then ask them what they are willing to do about it. If they say they need to see her then you can take her back without explaining it all in front of her.
One day I might be more organised...........

My 14 year old has paid £25 for a trim and blow dry( or should I say I have paid) so the price isn't out of the ordinary but if it's not been done properly that a different story.

Ah, now I see. I'm a bit behind with the shortening of words. I tend to use the full text and get mixed up when people talk this way.
Suppose I should drop by more often, then I might just learn new things. :rotfl:

Don't worry about it. For ages I used to wonder who lol was and why his name kept popping up at random.
