I'll try to make this short and sweet
I bought an bluetooth carkit through amazon marketplace in Jan this year.
It stopped working last month, so i signed onto amazon and contacted the seller. He told me a replacement could be arranged, no problem.
I was asked to send a copy of the invoice and the item to them.
So I stumped up £8 to post the item recorded.
2 Days later I received a parcel. It was the original box with a sticker on it saying i did not buy this from them, so returning as received.
On inspection the serial number on the box does not match the serial number on the device. Now I cannot see a way to recover from this situation.
I've complained to the company, they are adamant that they deal with everything on a 1 to 1 basis, so the device is the one I sent, no chance of a mix up. They have not accused me directly but they say its common for people to send items to them claiming under warranty for an item not bought from them. So they think I bought an additional carkit from them, so I could claim off the warranty.
I know for an absolute fact the one they returned is not the one I sent, it is semi working where as the one I sent was completely dead. But there is no way I can think I can prove this. ( I'm sure they don't want to listen, as if I'm not trying to con them, they are obviously trying to con me )
I've contact Amazon and they are not interested.
Item cost was about £90 and paid on CC.
I still have the defective item
So hopefully someone has some ideas on what else I can try. However putting that to one side how can we be protected from this in the future. First step I suppose is to make sure that every item purchased from now on I check the serial number on the box against the serial number on the actual item. But then what, if it doesn't match they could say I've switched it ?

Have a read of MSE's Section 75 Refunds article to see if your credit card company can help you.
Might be worth asking about this on the Consumer Rights board, but I do fear that you may struggle with this.
Edited to add:
Just noticed that you paid £90. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 only covers purchase over £100. Sorry.0 -
Mods, please feel free to move the thread to consumer rights board.
I was unsure where to post this.
Saves making duplicate threads.

To get it moved you PM 1 of the board guides and ask if they could move it. The board guides are listed at the bottom of each sub forum.
Ill PM them for you.0 -
As you paid for it via a CC, then you need to undertake a S75 claim via your CC provider.Never Knowingly Understood.
