Help! getting different broadband test speeds

I decided to do a broadband speed test today as my connection has been a been dodgy recently. Anyway I went to the broadband speed checker page to gauge what kind of speed I have coming to the house. I decided to use the Ethernet cable from my Virgin router to my laptop as that should give me the best reading/good indication of what I should be getting, then I got a wireless reading and that was the one which was not very good. Any reason for the big discrepancy? (29mb with cable/11mb without)

Possibly interference, try a different wireless channel.
Download inSSIDer, and scan for interference, then change to an unoccupied one.

The wireless performance of the VM Superhub has been the subject of numerous complaints so that may also be a factor.

If you only have a "G" wifi adapter which shows a maximum 54Mbps connection speed it will never exceed ~24Mbps anyway even under ideal conditions. If it is "N" then it should handle a 30Mbps VM connection OK but might struggle on 60Mbps and I seriously doubt that the Superhub' own wireless is capable of 100Mbps.
