Well I'm typing this with a teeny tiny kitten jumping all over my legs and she is the cutest kitten I've ever seen. We decided to call her Morti
Had the home inspection today, and within 30 mins the shelter called and said we really need the space for a new litter so could we pick her up today (she was the last of 5, the others went in pairs).
After a mad dash round the shops we had food, litter, beds, toys and a carrier. Then picked her up this afternoon. Since she was the last they gave me her litter's blanket so she had something familiar.
She really hated the car and cried all the way home, but stopped as soon as we got back, took her a while to come out and then she bolted under the sofa and stayed there for ages.
In the end we got her playing with a toy but she wouldn't let anyone touch her, bolted back under the sofa if you even moved. I think she just got freaked out from having so many people around (my dad was visiting for the weekend and my boyfriend is here too.
Wen they went out to get dinner I offered her a treat and she sat on my lap to eat it and let me stroke her, we spent an hour bonding and now she'll let me pick her up or stroke her and has taken a few short naps on me. She won't let anyone else close but I'm hoping that will come with time.
My mothers living room is a L shape, with the bit off to the side having different lighting. She's curled up on my legs now just watching everyone else talking round the corner in the main room.
She seems pretty happy but is there anything people can suggest to get her settled in?0 -

Yes she is, and she will be joining us in 2 weeks0 -
she'll soon become more confident. Let her come to you. If everyone sort of 'ignores' her i'm sure she'll do some exploring!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

Everyone else has just sat down to watch a 3 hour film, but I'm not interested so I'm still curled up with the cat. Hoping that the consistent noise will stop her being so jumpy. I'm honoured that she runs to me when scared though, I thought it would take weeks for her to trust me this much.
I almost cried laughing earlier though, my mother farted slightly as the cat was running up to her to say hello. It jumped so high and bolted so fast, poor thing.
She's spent a while running around in circles trying to catch the white tip on her tail, and is currently playing hunt the blanket - pouncing on it from all angles and chewing it into submission.0 -
these are all new sights, sounds and smells for her. it might take a few days or a week to totally settle.
i would say beware of any gaps bigger than 1inch behind or under furniture/applicances! she'll find a way to get in it!!!!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

We know! Every time she gets scared she has bolted under the sofa, though waving the string monster toy on the floor soon fishes her out.
I also learned not to wear socks with green tips, as she also keeps trying to save me from the toe monster.
I'm sat cross-legged on the sofa and she's sitting in the hole grooming herself now, I'm really happen she has taken to me so quickly.
She still hasn't left the small part of the L shaped room yet, so there is a whole other world out there for her to discover, and a second floor when she makes it up the stairs.
Should I leave it a couple of weeks before letting her outside? (its a closed courtyard surrounded on all sides with a 3 story building so no chance of escape)0
