As which is law, it cant really be taken as gospel
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Haha, funny you say that.. Just saw the new "O2 Refresh" advert on the TV, just read up on their website. I guess that is their sly way of getting round this with this new concept for mobile phone contracts.. :D
No, I don't think that's O2's objective at all. I actually think what O2 is doing is very commendable. I object to subsidised handsets because the practice:
    • Distorts competition by disguising the true price of the handset and of the service, as opposed to a SIM-free handset and SIM-only service.
    • Encourages wasteful acquisition of new handsets because consumers mistakenly believe they are receiving the handset for free or for very little.
    • Necessitates long contract durations in order to spread the cost of the handset, which inhibits competition by preventing consumers from switching networks.
    • Causes consumers to continue paying the inflated monthly charge even after they have paid off the subsidy of the handset, unless they remember to take action at the end of the minimum contract period.
    • Encourages consumers to acquire handsets they cannot truly afford through an unhealthy "buy now pay later" consumer debt culture.
O2 Refresh solves all of these problems except for the last one.

O2 refresh seems to be much more expensive than just buying a phone upfront and then getting the airtime separately (eg PAYG or sim only contract) with whatever mobile company and package best suits your needs.

Despite "0%" interest, the price of paying in installments appears to be significantly expensive than buying the same phone on O2 PAYG.

If you've not damaged your handset yourself and there's fault with it, call o2 from your handset and explain the issue you're having (or visit a store)
They can send it in to Returns and Repairs for you if they can't fix the issue.

Will it be that simple if it's, say, iPhone or LG?

Am I missing something? Is the phone actually faulty or broken... What problem are you having with the phone? Your OP doesn't specify... A phone that has been smashed hasn't technically lasted the minimum term, a phone that is water damaged hasn't etc. You need to state the actual issue with the handset.
