To switch line rental and broadband from VM to Sky requires you to install a BT-based line for ADSL broadband. Your existing VM cable line can only be used on VM, not for any other provider.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Since sky will be charging line rental for the phone line , surely they will sort that ?

No, you'll have to "sort that" with BT.

Sky can install the line for you (or reconnect an existing line), but it's not 'included'. It's a separate one-off charge. Anything from about £50 to £130 if you pay the full BT rate.
