Why is DELL offering Windows XP?

Am I seeing things, why are they still offering XP on new computers and laptops??
I thought Vista was the better version with better protection and features, it makes no sense to supply an older OS which will be outdated and support ended by 2009

Blackadder: Yes it is.
Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

As a dellfanatic, shouldn't you be telling us the answer?
Not everyone wants the latest software for either their OS or software packages, latest versions are not always best for everyone! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
They are still installing XP as an option because of popular demand.
Vista is very buggy still and lots of software is incompatible with it. Even new graphics cards don't have good drivers for it yet. Many people prefer a stick and stable operating system (XP) over a newer but buggy and bloated OS like Vista.0 -
Hi dellfanatic
Some people may already own hardware - printers etc - that are for XP and aren't compatible with Vista.
Also they may have bought software packages that won't run on Vista.
So if they get their new Dell with XP installed they won't need to pay for all that hardware and software again.
PS Pretty soon they'll be available in UK with Ubuntu instead.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Users force Dell to resurrect XP0 -
Indeed, customer demand, Vista is still far too buggy, and no drivers available for many items.
Vista is just a resource hungry .. money spinner for MS, with no real advantages over XP.;)0 -

Shock!! A company actually wanting to make money, whatever next. I seem to remember XP being much more resource hungry than 98 when it came out and all the same arguments against Vista are the same as the ones used against XP when it came out. If you're going to use the same old arguments then you might as well go back to using DOS.
As for unavailability of drivers, 100% blame can be landed at the respective hardware manufacturer's feet. It's their drivers and their responsibility to write them, and it's hardly as if Vista came out of nowhere."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

So are you a Vista convert then? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I agree with Pepe it's the manufacturers' fault if they were too lazy to get drivers made, I guess that's the main driving force behind it - I've got Vista already due to some blown capacitors on my old desktop's motherboard - it's had a few runtime errors but since the monthly update, nothing. I don't regret getting vista at all, I suspect it's more a fear of change for some...

Actually I don't have the hardware to run Vista
But I'm not going to say it's rubbish just because my pc is. And I'm not in any rush to get it, I just disagree with people making sweeping negative statements about something without giving any details. Also it annoys me when people seem to think capitalism is a bad idea

Not comparing like with like, there were significant improvements from 98 to XP, the same cannot be said about Vista.
I have no problem with any company making money, however this is just tantamount to daylight robbery.
Anyway, think what you like, Dell have received so many requests for XP that they have included it back on their listings.0
