I've done a stock take on all the food in the house and got to make sure I can feed 2 adults and 3 children (10,9 &5). Lunch for the children and dinner for the 5 of us. Got cereals and milk for breakfast.
I've tried for the last hr or so to get my head around it but cant make enough meals and I'm not good at experimenting. Hubby is a meat and chips every day kid of man but has reluctantly agreed to eat what ever I make just so we can get back on track. Any help would be most grateful.

Do you have any ordinary rice, yeast, bicarb, milk or butter?
I have got a few ideas for recipes
Fishfinger pie serves 5/6
600g (about 6 medium) potatoes
Milk
Butter
12 fish fingers
1/2 an onion chopped
1 tin of tomatoes
100g peas
1 tbsp tomato puree (Don't worry if you don't have any use ketchup instead)
1 tsp sugar (To take the tartness of the tomatoes away)
salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 200c
Peel and dice the potatoes and put on to boil, then grill the fish fingers
Fry onion until soft, then add the tomatoes, peas, sugar, puree and seasoning. Bring to the boil and then simmer for a couple of mins
Lay the fishfingers in the bottom of a dish (like you would use for lasagne)
Pour over the tomato mixture
Mash the potato until smooth and add some milk and butter (If you only have new potatoes don't worry about mash just slice them and lay them on the top) They will be a bit like chips this way
Spread the potato on top of the tomato mixture and bake for 30 minutes.
Curried Beefburger Rice Bake
Lightly cook the burgers and add them to an oven proof dish add a tin of kidney beans, a tin of baked beans,a tin of tomato soup add the curry rice
Cook at 180c for approx 30 mins until the soup has more or less been absorbed into the rice
Bacon Pasta version 1
6 slices bacon
½ an onion
a tin of tomatoes
mushrooms
Peas
a tsp sugar
a tsp mixed herbs
Spaghetti
Put spaghetti on to boil
Gently fry onion until translucent then add the bacon and fry gently followed by the sliced mushrooms and peas finally add the tomatoes, herbs and 1 tsp sugar
simmer gently until hot then drain the spaghetti and toss through the sauce
Bacon Pasta version 2
Spaghetti
6 slices bacon
½ and onion
tin of lentil soup
Peas
Carrots
Fry onion add chopped bacon then carrots and peas lastly pour in the soup heat through until piping hot add spaghetti as version 1
Breaded Fish and wedges
Make some wedges by washing the potatoes (no need to peel) and cut into chunks spread them on a baking tray cover with some foil and pop in the oven for 15 minutes then cook uncovered for 20 minutes
Cover the fish fillets with breadcrumbs to which either mixed herbs, lemon juice or chilli flakes have been added put into foil packages and allow to cook gently in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes
How about making soda bread it can be done without butter milk see here for the recipe

4 cups flour

Just had a thought do you have a nectar card or other cash back loyalty card with anything on it?
Have you been through pockets, side of sofa etc?
Do you not have any family close by who could help with a few bits to tide you over?Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

The carrot and kidney bean burgers from agirlcalledjack.com are delicious. I recommend being generous with the seasonings (I used scant teaspoons and wish I'd gone for a bit more). Contemplating making some little ones for veggie 'meatballs' and pasta with tom sauce.

War sponge
175g/6oz plain flour
3 tsp baking powder
70g/2½oz margarine
60g/2¼oz sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
150ml/¼ pint milk
2-3 tbsp jam or lemon curd
Heat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5. Grease and line two 18cm/7in sandwich tins.
Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl.
Cream the margarine, sugar and golden syrup until light and fluffy. Add a little flour then a little milk and repeat until all of the flour and milk has been added and the mixture is smooth and well combined. (Add a little extra milk or water if the mixture is too stiff.)
Divide the mixture between the tins and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until risen and golden-brown.
Remove the cakes from the oven and set aside to cool for 20 minutes or so. Remove the cakes from the tins and set aside to cool completely.
Sandwich the cakes together with jam or lemon curd
Alternatively add 2 tbsps of bottled lemon juice to make a completely lemon sponge and bake in a lined loaf tin, great sliced for lunch boxes or just for a tea time treatBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hi
If you really can't stomach the hot dog sausages try taking them back. Prob not if mr T but A5da and Sain5burys are pretty good at exchanging things without a receipt.
You can make a great pasta bake with mayo and cheese mixed as the sauce the add mushrooms, and anything else you want to use up. Maybe tuna if you can get rid of your hot dog sausages.
If not can you swap the with someone else?
Can you get yourself invited to dinner somewhere this week and invite them back when you've been paid.
Moving forward stay away from the savoury rice and pasta etc as they are quite pricey and not really that nice. There are some great links on here for building up a store cupboard which should help for the future- I know hindsight is a great thing. Hope it all works out for you.0 -
