It should be a simple matter to confirm that Nationwide are the ones who require signature verification.Did the letter that turned up come on Nationwide headed paper and explain the complaints process and the right of access to the ombudsman after 8 weeks? Is the return address one that belongs to Nationwide?
Ring them up, quoting the complaint reference and ask them

The person with PPI is not good with computers. Not clear if they have previously had contact with anyone else, but not believed likely.
The friend filled in the form on the Nationwide site on 21 April - We are confident it was not a spoof site. However no letter has been received from Nationwide.
That is all I can say at this stage, I'll post any further update if I receive one.

Under FCA regulations, an acknowledgement would be sent in writing which should arrive within a few days of the complaint being made.
So, with a claims company writing out and asking some dodgy things and no acknowledgement from Nationwide, it does look like something fishy is going on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Too many friends of friends involved here for us to get a clear picture...I'm certain Nationwide would be able to confirm or deny if a bona fide complaint has been received via their website more than a month ago.So, with a claims company writing out and asking some dodgy things and no acknowledgement from Nationwide, it does look like something fishy is going on.
If the Bank don't have any complaint on record then there really is only one logical conclusion...0 -
Too many friends of friends is about right.
