How about old fashioned tinned pease pudding spread on toast , covered with grated cheese and browned under the grill, served with either veggie bacon or sausages chopped up over the top?

Some brilliant ideas, will give them all a go
  • If you go for tinned spaghetti I would recommend Branston as it is much tastier than Heinze and the supermarkets own brands.

What about baked or grilled peppers - a bit of olive oil and a scrap of basil in each half, and as they cook you get a lovely puddle of juice in the centre of the pepper - just right for sopping up a dry breakfast.

Drachenfach - I tried your pepper idea this morning and they loved it!
    Thanks x
  • Mine like spiced beans of any sort. Whichever pulse is on offer goes in our house so some weeks its chick peas, other weeks butter bean, haricot beans or kidney beans.

1tsp oil, some cumin, add the beans, 1 tbspn passata/fresh toms/tinned toms (whatever you have really). Mix with tiny bit of salt, small springling of brown sugar, small sprinkling of ground cumin and tumeric. Simmer for 5 mins and voila :T

My kids love this on toast for breakfast or for lunch with homemade veggie nuggets/burgers.

They think it's a treat that they get to choose the type of bean :rotfl:

I despise tinned baked beans, but I make a homemade version which I like much better. It's based on Gizzi Erskine's recipe, but I veganised it, because I was a vegan at the time (I'm not any more; I'm too poor to turn down food).

You just fry a chopped onion in a tablespoon or two of oil, add 3-4 desseeded chopped tomatoes, a cup or two of water, a stock cube (or two, to taste), tablespoon tomato puree, teaspoon garlic puree, and a tinned of drained butter beans. Simmer till reduced slightly. I generally get 5-6 portions of this, which I eat alongside tomatoes and hash browns. They keep well in the fridge for about a week.
