    So you weren't immediately ruled out due to having a current account but the likely cause was the number of deposit accounts.

    For such a basic account, there is almost no risk from a debt point of view so it would appear to come down to their policy.

    Basic accounts don't usually require a credit check (no credit facility) just an ID check to satisfy anti-money laundering regulations.

    It would appear so, unusual how Barclays branch manager wouldn't be aware of this issue?
