I bought a Ployer Momo8 IPS tablet last October from a a seller through Amazon marketplace for £99.
The tablet has been ok so far.
Last week i put it on charge over night and at 5AM i went to unplug it i noticed it was very hot to touch which it was never before. When i looked again i thought the screen had a hair or something on it but looking again it was a crack on the screen.
I think the overheated battery may have caused the crack on the screen as in never hit it or dropped the tablet and it was on the carpet overnight.
I emailed the seller and he emailed back and said nothing to do with him and gave me an email address of a firm that would repair but want £50.
I have not got in contact with Amazon yet as i wanted some advice on what to do first.
On Amazons forums there are lot of these tablets getting broken screens.

Over 6 months have passed you will need to prove it was an inherent manufacturing fault.

Only you can decide whether that is worth the hassle and expense. I personally would have my doubts. Is the seller UK based?

    Thank you Hintza.

    Yes he is UK based.
His big selling point was the 1 year warranty and also UK based and not China as a lot on Amazon are.

    What are/were the warranty terms?

It's a pity it was £99 and not £101 ... if the latter then you would have had Section 75 protection. :(

I paid using amazon gift balance/credit and not debit/credit card.
    His terms are

Email him back and remind him of the warranty? (It sounds like he is saying you broke the screen ... you said it was on the floor; is it possible something dropped on it or stepped on it? e.g. a cat or a dog?)

Quite. The carpet could have caught fire. (Although it should have anti-inflammatory properties).

Nothing fell on it or trod on it as in the corner of the room no reason to go there unless i wanted to walk into the wall.
Just me in the house and no pets.
The tablet is in a case/cover so not directly on the carpet.
Strange thing was that the tablet was only 78% charged when unpluged but was on charge for 5 -6 hours normally it fully charges in 4-5.

Wow, okay. This is a little worrying - I'm starting to think some kind of Fight Club scenario is playing out here. Are you me? I've been dealing with this problem on behalf of my Dad for the last week and a half. It's almost exactly the same tablet as well. Scary.

Does your seller begin with an "L"? If so, don't expect them to answer their telephone address as it's a mobile phone that goes straight to voicemail. I've sent multiple emails through Amazon but had no response. I found his address so I think it's snail mail next. Perhaps you might want to try the same?

EDIT: To be fair, it's not exactly the same problem. My main concern is the tablets inability to hold charge. As with you, the battery gets really hot - and thus has cracked a little - but it's now become a useless brick as it won't even turn on without being plugged in, leading to it getting hot, leading to the cracks ect.

Sounds to me like another Lithium ion battery problem - and consequent damage - probably excluded from the warranty.

My husband nearly went up in flames a couple of months ago when the battery in his mobile phone got so hot it had his pocket scorching!
