Windows 8 multiple user accounts

Hi all

I read previously that if you set up multiple user accounts (separate logins) in can reduce the performance of your machine, does anyone know if this is the case with windows 8?

I'm not sure what you were reading previously but there shouldn't be performance issues with multiple user accounts in 8 or previous operating systems unless there's a specific issue with one of the user accounts or there's a massive number of user accounts (as in hundreds). I think the most I've seen is around 22,000 user profiles on a machine that had gone a bit wrong, it was in a busy multi-use area anyway but each time someone logged on it created a new profile in documents and settings every time. Needless to say it was experiencing some performance issues...

That's a load of rubbish, both for Win 8 and for previous versions of windows at least as far back as Windows 2000.

May have been an issue in Windows 98, but probably not.

It won't slow down your computer, don't worry

Only reasonable reason for mulitple user slowing down the PC if user a starts a looping/cpu-intensive/disk program and disconnects (ie switches user but doesn't log in) leaving you a login screen....
It appears that the above posters have overlooked this point, and if they don't believe me set up a new user , then run a virus scan on the admin user , and a re-build of the indexes at the same time ,then switch users and try using the other one without detriment :D
Of course in normal circumstances it will make no difference to the average user and you don't need to worry, and they are right in that case.

So what you're saying is if you run multiple system intensive tasks at once, your system slows down? :p

My point was that this is a specific case of user error when the OP was more about the myth that just having multiple accounts on the system slows things down.

The best thing about having multiple accounts is that you can remove admin rights from your kids or less competent family members and so reduce them crapping up the computer with spyware, toolbars etc.

I was pointing out that using multiple users concurrently can slow down a computer , as opposed to just creating multiple accounts, which does not slow down the operation of the machine (much)
