I'd probably have to introduce a welfare state...

Have you heard about the recent cuts in the welfare budget, and the tax cuts for the rich?
Have you heard about the crises in the NHS?
Have you heard about the unrest in the teaching profession?
The welfare state is being hit very hard by the recent activities of the banks, and I think it is 'touch-and-go' as to whether European countries will be able to continue to offer a better deal to its citizens than any other country in the world.

Yes, I have heard it, and as I keep asking "So what would you do differently?"
No disrespect intended, but I think you're just venting and don't have any of your own answers?
No problem with that, we all do it. I was just interested in seeing some alternative viewpoints as I have strong opinions as to how we should support those in society who cannot support themselves (and especially strong views on who falls into this category and who doesn't). I just wanted to engage in a detailed discussion around this subject. Thanks anyway.0 -
Government budgets are 'all or nothing' - there is little scope for detailed analysis of every individual transaction.
That's why there are so many successful benefit fraudsters, as well as massive tax evaders.

No it's not. I used to live a couple of miles from Brixton and you don't get tourists there. What would they go to see? There's nothing of interest that can't be done better elsewhere except getting stabbed in Maccas perhaps.
I once walked through a favela in rio de janeiro with £700 in my money belt.
Now that's what I call tourism!
