Realised another account would be useful so I applied online shortly after posting here yesterday.
Everything went ok now awaiting a decision.
Edit:-
Just checked my Halifax online banking and the new BoS Classic account has appeared there.0 -
Flippin' heck, what a palaver. As I couldn't open the BoS classic (for vantage) online, I've just opened over the 'phone, having explained that I'd tried online earlier, but it wouldn't go past the address point. I was told that no "imprint" would have been made by the earlier attempt, so agreed to go through phone application. At the end of it all, I was then told I'd have to provide identity docs through post. I don't know what's up with their system, but it's been so long ago that I can't remember the last time I've been asked to provide ID as it's always been done via electoral register. I've now got to travel 35 miles to my closest Halifax branch (no BoS anywhere nearer) to produce ID. If she'd told me that at the beginning, I wouldn't have bothered.0

The information you gave them during your application is with almost certainty different to what CRAs and/or the Electoral Roll hold about you.
Don't understand why you would have to produce ID in person? May be it's to do with verification of your documents?
Whatever - - don't spend all your potential interest for a year on petrol to get to the nearest Halifax branch. Unless you feel you can / have to proof a point of sorts.0 -
Tried to open one of the BoS Vantage today, got as far as name and address and the page said "processing", but never got any further. After 10 minutes wait, I closed and started again, same happened. QUOTE]
Same thing occurred with me during March when at that point I already held two B.O.S Vantage Accounts., I phoned from a Halifax branch, application went through fine so best not link that occurrence with your Phone application which subsequently requested ID0 -
If it's anything like the online application for a Halifax account, I had to use a different browser.0
