Victim of online bullying - Anything I can do?

If the guy is giving you grief about watermarking images that you don't own the copyright to, how about watermarking them with "I DO NOT OWN THE COPYRIGHT"?
:starmod:you're awesome.. act like it:starmod:0 -
The OP seems to have sunk without a trace.0

I read his post again and from this I'd guess he has the original and photographed it for online use -
"...he went on the offensive with me over a photograph of a item in my collection that I watermarked (to prevent image theft)..."
Which I think means that if the original was not copyright and the photo was clearly a photo and not a reproduction then he is within his rights to watermark his photo, as he owns the copyright to the photo (but not to the original image). But if the photo is a duplicate then he shouldn't be claiming (c) or watermarking. Not that it should matter a stuff whether he watermarks them or not if they're out of (c) but that's my interpretation.
Hello
That is correct, I own the original. I am not claiming the overall copyright, just watermarking the image with my name so the image & collection can be identified to where it came from in case any author, publicist wishes to use the item or photograph.0 -
Hello all
As I have outlined previously, I am not claiming copyright. That is not the issue here as such, but the person making the threats and allegations is just using it as a excuse to make other allegations.
I have not sunk without trace, I am elsewhere trying to resolve this matter which has taken a turn for the worse. The cyber attacker is again making online allegations that I have abused/molested someone, just so they can win the argument. The cyber attacker also set his sights on a friend who came to my defense by taking their profile photograph and re-posting it adding a caption that the person in the photograph is wanted by the police for being a pedophile.
I have yet again reported the matter to the police and have to make a statement tomorrow. The press have caught wind of the story and now are hounding me. I have spoken to the FBI in London to be told there is nothing they can do unless requested by our police. Leaving Facebook is the easy option. Granted, it stops me seeing the allegations being posted just on Facebook. But what about the other websites. So do I remove myself entirely from the net because someone is a cyber bully? How many other people is this man targeting, let alone the other peoples ages.
This has gone way beyond who-owns-what (which I can prove in needed in a court of law). The serious nature of the mans vulgar and vile accusations is the reason I am here. The items in my collection led up to the mans cyber attacks, or so it would seem to me. He could just have been waiting for his next victim, then I came along.
Seriously, this is no fun. It is not only effecting me, but also my partner and family. Not to mention other people this vile man is targeting.0 -

Maybe it's possible for you to contact them via email if your local police wont deal with it. Or you could try True Vision, on report-it.org.uk...that is a site set up by the Association of chief police officers.
Thank you, that will be my next step.0 -
I have filed a report to the suggested True Vision.0

Copyright isn't an indefinite right. UK - life of the author + 70 years.
Sounds like the photos are likely to be out of copyright anyway.0 -
If you've told the police then record the screen dumps as evidence and let them deal with it. And if you think the comments have caused you measurable loss then you could instruct your solicitor with view to a civil case of libel. All sounds a bit grim.
On the upside it sounds like you've no problems on the copyright front, so you know, every cloud.0 -

Hello everyone
I am taking myself away for a couple of days to recharge the batteries, so to speak, so there will be a couple of days of no response from me. I have to give a statement later today to the police and I will try and push the police this time around into action as they brushed it off the first time in April. According to the FBI after speaking with them yesterday, they do not see it as a problem for them to resolve at this moment, but they said they would look into it if requested by the UK police. When back from my break, I will look into contacting the police in the US and the town/city they currently reside.
With all the recent criticisms being fired at Facebook and they way they deal with cyber-bullying, and of course people who have been bullied into taking their own lives, I am disgusted in Facebook's shabby handling of this. The person who posts up the vulgar allegations, as according to Facebook, is within Facebooks terms & conditions.
