And that is why recorded delivery should NOT be used for ebay!

So what else are we supposed to do?

The feedback though is left for the buyer, not Royal mail, so my point remains. What has the buyer actually done that was not positive? I agree that from your point of view the transaction was not 100% positive, but you can't mark the buyer down for something outside of his control.

So following your argument I assume you feel that the buyer should leave you a neutral as the transaction was not positive from their point of view as they had the inconvenience of waiting for a refund when they expected goods? My own view would be that the buyer also should leave a positive as you had done what he expected and should not be penalised through fault of the Royal Mail.

I think a neutral for a seller giving a refund due to a RM !!!!-up, is rational and reasonable. I don't say I'd LIKE it, but it'd be a rational response - if 'neutral' wasn't, in effect, treated as 'mildly negative'. Which is where the Golden Rule comes in, treating others as you'd like to be treated. I've been pretty much persuaded by this thread from my original stance. What's rational isn't always what's pleasant and functional: and since fb is in effect treated as a reflection on the ebayer, not just the transaction, it's necessary to bear that in mind.

That said, if the position was reversed and I was the buyer, then as long as I wasn't also a seller under the same ID I probably wouldn't be too much bothered by a neutral as long as I got my refund. It's more serious for sellers.

    Anyhoo useful debate (for me).

If anything you should be leaving your very understanding and accommodating buyer a BIG FAT POSITIVE.

They are sitting there waiting for a delivery from this seller who 'says' they have posted it out - how do they know you did? you could be trying it on!!!

If I was that buyer I would definitely give you a negative if you left me a neutral.

    Bloomin' cheek ;)
