virgin package

Options
Hi all

Does anyone have any experience of how best to get out of a virgin contract? I am moving house and want to take the cable services (phone, tv & web) with me but they can't provide it at my new address. It's ashame as I am happy with the service! I currently pay £37/month.

They have said I can pay £140 to get out of the contract completely or pay £25 a month on a new 18 month contract at the new address for web and phone only!

Any tips on how to lower my costs further? Does anyone know if virgin let you pay 12 months up front for a discount or anything?

Any help appreciated :-)

I'm not sure you would get a better deal than £25 monthly for broadband and phone line, but it's worth trying. I doubt they would let you pay 'up-front' for a discount, but I may be wrong. It would save you £140 as well, as you would only be downgrading services.

It's also worth finding out if they are likely to be installing cable in the new area you are going to.

Then again, if you are wanting subscription tv, you might get a good 'new customer' deal with another provider. Like the one that rhymes PIE .:-)

Virgin hasn't laid any new cable (apart from new build properties and the like) for years.

You can pay £140 to cancel or £25 a month for inferior broadband and 'phone. Those are your only options.

thanks for the responses guys. Seems like I'm pretty stuck. Don't know what to do! I have a freeview plus box I could use for the next 18 months and then pay for the virgin national services, but I need to investigate what the internet speeds/allowances etc are, as we do download a lot so would hate to go over. We don't have a problem at the moment, but we are on the L package and don't know how the national service compares?

    What a headache :( x

There is no way out without paying the ETC. You contracted for a minimum term at your current address. It's your choice to move, and VM do not offer 100% national coverage.
This question is asked several time a week, but the answer does not change.
You can minimise the hit by switching the other services (phone and broadband) to Virgin National, but this is just a resold BT Wholesale ADSL product and will start you on a new minimum term. Speeds will not compare to VM cable-to get that you'll need a fibre product, if available.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
