I love your ideas. I love to see the green house looking so healthy too. wish I had the time to grow more.... hopefully one day will have a green house too. :)

It has it's benefits and it's problems, and to be honest whilst it accelerates growth, as in you can almost see the plants grow at times, it also accelerates the requirements for care.

IE, watering is required several times per day, some assistance in pollination etc etc

The water requirement being the reason I prefer to grow toms over gravel water trays, you get the visual water level indication of when extra is required.

It does open up a whole extra dimension to plant growing and rearing, especially growing from seed :):)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Nah never worked for me. Nematodes the only one that did.

I read a good tip, I think, in a back issue of Kitchen Garden magazine about breeding your own Nematodes. Basically the parasite that you're buying occurs naturally in slugs, so instead of hunting them and killing them straight away create a colony of them by sticking them in a large sealable bucket with some water and leaves. Eventually you'll get an infected slug and in those conditions they'll rapidly infect and kill all the other slugs. You then drain out the water which will be full of the parasite and you then use that instead of the commercially produced stuff.

Maybe it was in the Heliograph! The war on slugs starts at home

Yuk - sounds quite disgusting - I'd rather buy it.

Yes, I read that you can make your own but the actual process is not very pleasant :(

We grow tomatoes in compost or rubble bags.We used to split grow bags in half and saddle bag them.We never found 3 to a grow bag very successful

I've had great success with 3 plants in a growbag, but they do need feeding regularly from the first flower truss as they exhaust the compost very quickly.

Whilst waiting for nematodes to arrive, I am sad to say that I have had to take drastic action against the slugs. The beer and drowning them technique :o.

They have been too greedy, I can't believe how much they have eaten. Half my radish, a strawberry plant and one had managed to crawl up my chard container and have a feast, either that or he parachuted in :D, before I got to him and removed him with a stick.

I haven't even planted any of my main stuff yet as hardening them off, I hope the nematodes work or I'm going back to container gardening, in the short term it may be more expensive but in the long term, at least I get some crop! Rant over, thanks :)
