Microsoft essentials and avast are both good. why not try one and if you are not satisfied with that try the other.

May not happen often but it does happen and AVAST does -eventually- become rather annoying (always has over-egged the popup notifications).0 -
I've just chucked my Kaspersky in favour of BitDefender IS 2013. So far it's been very impressive (albeit with a slightly clunky interface) so I'm going to stick with it.0

I'd second that choice. Along with Kaspersky, Bitdefender is the best of the subscription based security suites available. A fact you can check out on:
