PAC code & new phone advise
Hi
I've just ordered a new phone (monthly contract with dialaphone) on an Orange new contract.
My existing Orange deal had expired several months ago.
I want to keep my Number.
Do I just phone 150 & ask for a PAC code or is it different because i'm staying with Orange (via dialaphone).
Not done this before so unsure of process.
Thanks

Your contract is with Orange, not with d-a-p that just sold you Orange contract and supplied the handset.
PAC is used for porting numbers between networks, not within the same network.
If you switch your old contract to PAYG first, Orange sometimes do internal transfers from PAYG to a new contract. If they refuse the only way to keep your number is to port it in two steps via another network PAYG sim card.
And beware, your current contract with Orange has not expired actually and requires 30 day notice to cancel.0 -
Thanks.
Few points there I was obviously unaware of.
So How do I switch to PAYG?
Do I ring Orange (can I do it from my online account?) & do I need a new SIM?
How long does this take?
Should I ring to cancel asap & ask to be put on PAYG?
Just trying to get my head round the correct order to do this.
Many thanks again0 -
You need to clarify what you want to do. You originally stated a new contract, now PAYG - which is it? You do not need a PAC if switching from contract to PAYG, and probably no need for a new SIM either. Call Orange give them the required 30 days notice and say you wish to switch to PAYG WHEN THE NOTICE PERIOD IS UP!
Job done.
Now, what's this about Dialaphone?0 -
Sorry I thought it was clear in my original post.
My questions where based on the first reply.
To clarify.
1.I have a phone with Orange on a recurring monthly payment(out of contract)
2.I just ordered a new phone with I assume a new number as it's a new 18month deal, with a company called Dialaphone for the Orange network.
I want to know how I go about keeping my original mobile number.
I understand now I don't need a PAC as i'm not moving networks.
I understand I can't just ask Orange to transfer my number from the current phone to the new one.
I just wanted to follow up on how I convert the existing phone to PAYG in order to then transfer my number to the new 18th monthly contract phone.
I hope that makes sense to someone

You have taken out a new contract with Orange. That means you have 2 running now.
You get your PAC code, get a PAYG sim from, say Vodafone, and transfer your number to Vodafone PAYG sim.
Then get the PAC code from Voda and transfer it to Orange replacing your new contract number.
PACs only apply when switching networks..0 -
Thanks everyone.
I see I have 2 possible routes here.
1.Switch existing phone to PAYG & ask Orange to then do an internal number transfer to my new contract phone after it's activated.
2.If they won't I need a PAC code as explained by "Guys Dad" & "Grumbler" and a PAYG sim for another network to transfer number back & forwards.
Rushed this a bit as I saw a cashback deal that ended today.
Thanks again0
