I think stopping breast feeding when the baby is six months old, is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, and nobody should feel any pressure to carry on. Even if you can only feed up to the child being six WEEKS old, you have given him/her a good start in life. Don't listen to anyone in your life making out you should carry on til they're one or two or whatever. Breastfeeding til the child is that age is not going to be good for the baby, if it's not suitable or convenient or comfortable for the mother.

Getting it down half the feeds for the fist few weeks, and feeding formula for the rest of the time is a good idea, and they will soon get used not feeding off the breast.

I did the same as this. Worked fine. With hindsight, I think its amazing that the body can do this.

I was also pleased I did this as we went to France and he would not drink anything when there other than breastmilk. He didn't like the water or juice over there. I have no idea why. He just cried and threw his cup down. Not sure what we would have done if he couldn't have breastmilk.

I would say express milk and put it in a bottle and get her use to taking a bottle then after a few days swap to formula. Good Luck
  • My daughter has fully breast fed and just started back to work. Her daughter (now 9 months) is having formula now mid afternoon and breast still first thing and before she goes to bed. When I fed my daughter I dropped the feeds one at a time continuing with first thing in the morning stopping one day at about 9 months when I was unwell.
  • if you stop too quickly you will be very uncomfortable. try dropping a feed every couple of days, leave the night feed til last. goodluck
