Anyone near Bristol know anything about tv's? Ours has just gone on the blink with the screen flickering on and off! :(

That's bad news :( funnily enough my neighbours packed up today too so I lent him my 32" from the bedroom for the 10 days Panasonic are taking to fix it! My mum uses a lovely man called bob but he's bath based. He may come to Bristol though and he's very reasonable too. He fixed my DVD player for free as it just need the laser re aligned :)) I've had plasma and LCD, LCD picture is much better especially for sports or action movies. Plus plasmas are more expensive to run....may only be a few pence per hour but when my kids/hubby watch tv 24/7 it adds up! Hope you get it fixed!
On another note, I'm thinking of doing Whitchurch car boot next week, do you know what sort of time they start packing up as need to book babysitter lol

What's better. Plasma, LED or LCD when it comes to tv's?

It all comes down to budget. You really do get what you pay for with TV's today.
There are very few TV manufacturers out there with a large percentage of the same TV being made by one of two companies in Turkey Or Slovakia and sold under different brand names i.e Hitachi, some Phillips, Toshiba, cheaper supermarket brands etc. these tend to be your cheaper models using low quality components.
Full manufacturers are Sony, Samsung, Panasonic with the latter being the best.
Panasonic Plasmas are rated very highly and give a much truer to life picture compared against others. They will consume slightly more power than others, but it's minimal cost.
LED is the latest, but there are very few TRUE LED TV's unless you want to go into the thousands.
The cheaper ones you'll see are LED backlit (OLED) which is simply LCD and backlit.

How much do you want to spend and what size TV do you want ? Also do not get hung up on HD ready 720p and Full HD 1080 as to most people it makes very little difference to your viewing as the naked eye can only tell the differences at set distances.

    Afternoon,
Just popping on to say that my Bzz vouchers for the entertaining cheese have arrived. Thanks to all here who mentioned it as it's my first trial.
I was planning my shop but can't seem to see any on T.com?

    http://www.tesco.com/groceries/ProductBuylist/default.aspx?id=G00000717&icid=Dairy_Event_Nav_cheese

They seem to be on 3f2 though so savings to be had methinks ;).

I can see them signed in - obviously for big extras (ours is a BIG extra). AND they're 3 for 2 :D

We went for plasma because of the speed and the fact the blacks are really black, and they keep bringing our newer better screens for them too. We also got 3D, mainly because it was cheaper than the 2D version of the TV at the time) and the processing required for it means that the picture is better in 2D when you have a 3D screen.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Will call mum now get number. I bought my tv off him....bargain it was someone took it to be fixed, claimed insurance and told him the didn't want it back after that. Therefore I bought a £2000 tv for £150 and was less than two years old. I also sold my four year old plasma for £150 :) result! Gotta get rid of all these bloody baby clothes so unless something drastic happens will be at Whitchurch sat :)

Depending on what size you want, it is worth double checking in Mr Ts as they seemed to have some more RTC in our local store on Wednesday. I'm afraid what I posted above was the depth of my knowledge :o. Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, LG and Toshiba are good brands, Technika can be okay, it all depends on budget/size/features you are looking for really.

Oooh that was really lovely. Reminds me when we went to the elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, and they take the elephants down to the river to bathe.

    Opportunistic b:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:s!

Just returned from Sains., and noticed that the Basics carrots packs, which MSM is still showing as 69p in S, which - here - I assume is a fairly recent price from the last 24 hours, have rocketed up to 92p!!

(I did try them on the scanner though in case they were still 69p but price being increased tomorrow, sadly they're already 92p.) As a result I'm almost beginning to dislike S as much as T now. The carrots were a Tvs S product, after T increased its everyday "value" carrots price to 92p.

So the modus operandi of the companies (along with other stores) appears to be - don't reduce your shelf prices necessarily to match competitor's cheaper prices, as most customers will mix up their shopping, buying your special offers as well and thus take away any 'saving' they might have had from use (next time) of a coupon amount they might otherwise have had back. But, if a competitor price rises, then increase yours in-store as quickly as possible to match, as the difference will still then be nothing back, especially, it seems, if the competitor has increased the price of one of their own-brands which, in the case of S, won't be price-matched via BM anyway. Personally, I don't see why Sains. haven't put their price up to £1.00 in this situation and I think they certainly should.

In other words, the modus operandi of companies is strategic pricing and in order to make a profit. Big shock - modus op. of a company is to make a profit!! If it affects their bottom line, they'll do it, and, conversely, if doesn't affect their bottom line it won't be something they'll do. The price prom. schemes and similar themselves only exist because of this reason and, as long as it generally makes them more - increases their footfall - they'll keep them in place. So be thankful most people shop the way they do.

Strategic pricing calls for strategic buying - and non-buying - on our part. My modus op. is strategic (non-)buying.

Of course I am not buying the carrots at 92p - not that desperate for carrots anyway (just always looking in advance to see what option's available and an alternative will now exist). I think it may be onto the SP Carrots (2kg, non-comp) now at A - unless they're now upped the price (per kg) too! :mad:SP Carrots keep appearing and disappearing from a.com and MSM it seems - if I can find them instore they may be a useful filler vs everyone, as T and S are well-different size and, for non-N. Ireland, W do not have an equivalent range, and M don't have Savers Carrots 2kg either. Saying that, not looking good - if A SP are out of stock, as looked in Aldi only the other day and the price per kg on their carrots...!! They might be 69p/kg - but  that's way too much esp. as the Basics/Eday ones were around 46p/kg. At least Sains. though call it 'Basics' and don't claim anything about price - such as Eday "Value", "Smart" price and the "Savers" of M. M-'doesn't always Saver you anything' on some of the "Savers" items. Sometimes branded products, or standard range own brands, on special offer (or branded products etc. Avs M) can work out cheaper than the "Savers" item. Perhaps as we saw, briefly, with the 'normal' pears last week compared to the Savers ones of that time (although Savers the previous week may have been saving money then, but, this week, neither of them may do so).

    Savvy shopping everyone.
T Everyday-lack of value carrots 92p. (At the moment!)
