She didnt loose the bag...she 'lost' the contents of the bag. They replaced the bag but refused to replace the items she 'lost'.
Did they replace the bag though?
I can't see where the OP says that.
She says they replaced the receipt.

the title of your thread is 'what are my rights?'
Your rights are the same as if you had lost any of your shopping or belongings in the street.0 -

Oops so she did...thanks for pointing my numb nut moment out.:A0 -
Retail therapy is always good to lift up the mood, however my shopping experience today proved the opposite.
I went into River Island, Kingston branch and bought 3 items: a Rhianna top, a scarf and a pair of sunglasses coming to a total of 38,00 pounds (bargain right?)
At the till the shop assistant proudly tells me: oh you get the fancy Rhianna Bag!
So I leave the shop and go and buy stuff from other shops and finally not being able to carry any more bags we head to grab something to it! It is when I notice that one of the bags feels rather 'light'. On a closer look I noticed that the 'fancy' Rhianna bag had given away and it was split open at the bottom (pls see picture attached).
Noticing that I went straight back into river island just to be told by the arrogant branch manager that they do not make the bags so it is not their fault (despite the fact that it has river island written all over it) and once it is left the shop it is not their responsibility. Since the receipt was in the bag and together with the goods it went missing, I asked for a copy of my receipt. Initially the arrogant and now rude branch manager did not want to give it to me but he eventually gave in at the end. But that's all I got from them!
Had they given me my goods in the usual plastic not so fancy bag, I would still have my goods with me.
It makes me wonder if this is just a con so I go back and buy the items all over again!
In America they look after their customers! An example is that if you go to Starbucks (lately involved in the tax scandal but they have an American customer service mentality) and if they get your order wrong, they will replace the order and still give you a free drink voucher as a sorry for the inconvenience ! From river island I did not even get a simple verbal sorry! Appalled !
For some reason I cannot attach the pic!
But you can't prove that you didn't take the goods out, made the hole yourself and were going back in to get more product from River Island which is a more likely con than you are saying.
Its unfortunate but I am surprised you didn't notice the sudden drop in weight as you were walking.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Was it a carrier bag or an actual bag bag (handbag or the like)?
It'd be highly unusual for you to lose shopping out of a bag and not notice the change in weight or pressure on your hands. Also it'd be strange for someone to not get your attention and say you'd dropped shopping. I've seen people drop things before and every time they have been alerted to the fact.0
