Hi
I closed by Barclays current account about 2 weeks ago and withdrew all the money in the account, I never used the account for about 3 weeks prior to closing it to make sure there were no pending transaction, and transfered all my direct debit before.
Today, I got a letter from Barclays saying my closed current account was now £29.99 overdrawn and that I was using my personal reserve at £14.99 a day.
Any idea's how this could be ?

Continuous Payment Authority?
And is it not easier just to aks the bank instead of guessing?0 -
If they closed the account properly, any items that are presented after the date of closure would be rejected, and go into the banks 'reject account', for investigation.
Perhaps the closing entries weren't keyed on their system correctly, allowing a debit to be applied after closure.

Not strictly true.
Having worked for a credit card company a common complaint was someone had breakdown cover with the AA on continous authority. they cancel the card, 6mths later the payment comes out, and a statement is sent to customer to pay.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
....side issue...'personal reserve' at £14.99 a DAY???? And they claim PDLs are userous.

that doesnt seem right,
i could understand if the actual credit account was still open and a renewal/replacement card was held - a cpa could still come through but surely if the credit card account was closed - they couldnt take another payment.0 -

The CPA is authorised in advance, so yes, until cancelled, they can keep taking paying whether the account is open or closed. You need to state when closing the account that any existing CPAs on the account should be cancelled and also let the appropriate companies know.
Any company asking for a 'fresh' authorisation will get declined.0 -

It is quite simple here - the account was never closed.
It might have been a pending transaction or maybe charges but the account was never closed.
OP you withdrew the money to take the balance to nil but I will repeat they never closed the account.0 -
How do you know this?jonesMUFCforever wrote: »It is quite simple here - the account was never closed....

Closing an account doesn't cancel pending card transactions or CPAs.0
