The sell in May challenge

I've only just worked out that when the online spreadsheet shows a negative red figure, that actually means the share price has risen, not dropped. So rather than being in second place, I'm actually second from last.
I'm not sure I should be trusted with money.0 -
Hows everyones short doing? Im up about 25% so far, still hoping it goes belly up before september for 100% though
Edit: Just saw the spreadsheet, make that 40% and Im in third place

Oooh look - I'm winning! If only I could pick winners as well as I pick losers!
P.S. I just checked and there are still 6 brokers saying "strong buy", 5 saying "Neutral" and none saying sell.
Only today Canaccord Genuity reiterated their buy with a 40p target price, compared to their current 10p value. It just goes to show you should always take "expert" opinion with a big pinch of salt.
Unless they are right of course and huge profits can be made on the stock, but personally this is one falling knife I have no inclination to catch.0 -
Reaper I bought your share recently, they just got a new mine license for that useless rock
Lloyds is up 10% so I was slightly wrong but I own them soAnything in the ftse is helped by a very jubilant market, Im totally certain we will have storm clouds though. If we do have higher rates of employment then great but I think the road is rocky and still long to go
Im short SP500 and losing money because of it, but net long0 -
You bought them? That was brave. I lost 50% on them before bailing and they have kept falling ever since.
At some point market sentiment may favour junior gold miners/exporers, but I don't think that time has arrived yet. With little prospect of raising further funds from the market I think many may go bust. Amara Mining got money from Samsung so at least their finances are not as bad as some. I wish you luck but contrarian as I am it is step too far for me to dive back in, for now at least.0 -
Was right initially with HOIL as it fell a bit further than the market as a whole, but a recent jump in the price has undone the "gains" and more.0

6.92% loss on Shanks. Expecting next set of trading results to be disappointing. So hopefully further to fall.0

I think some of the examples in this thread at least highlight the very high risk involved with short selling. Was just re-sorting the spreadsheet (it having slipped my mind for a while) and noticed what has happened to CPP!

Surely there must have been a consolidation or something?I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
omg !!!!!! happened to CPP lol.
This is why I never short, I'm down 510%!
The only thing I can find is that it secured a new bank loan to pay all the compo claims against it. I still cant see how it can make enough money to pay off these loans in the future.
But unless they go bankrupt in the next month looks like I'm onto a loser hereFaith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0
