cancelling Tiscali

Hi
My daughter has got her internet through Tiscali. She has had no connection for nearly two weeks. Tiscali blamed BT and they checked the line and said it was fine and blamed Tiscali. Tiscali say that it is not them and so it goes on. If my daughter cancels Tiscali, how long would it take before she could get connected with another provider. Would it depend on Tiscali having to do anything.
Thanks
Jackie

Tiscali are a nightmare. It took me 4 months to leave them. They lie and tell you its the fault of BT., when it is in fact them. THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE A MAC CODE, which you need to transfer to another ISP.
I eventually complained to OTELO their whatchdog and eventually got £20 compensation and an apology.
Problem is you have to wait 6 weeks before you can complain to them, and then it takes ages.
You need to email Tiscali with you complaints, and keep a copy. Tiscali will ignore you email, but at least you can prove you sent it. Send them one everyday or twice a day. You will get an automated response back, but that is all.
Try toavoid calling them on the telephone, as it costs a fortune.
Good luck, and don't get too frustrated.Lic.0 -

Any chance you could give a bit more information on the problem your daughter is experiencing? It'll be easier to work out whether its Tiscali or BT's issue0

Hi
She just can't connect to the internet. BT came and checked the line and said there was no problem at all. Tiscali said it was the modem she was using, so she tried the modem that Tiscali provided and it still didn't work.

I had problems closing my Tiscali account but just closed my bank account so they couldn't take any money. Fortunately I was planning to change banks anyway. Six months later I am still getting letters threatening to cut me off! I could remind them that I sent dozens of emails, made several phone calls and wrote cancelling my account - but why bother, it's not costing me anything. I might add that I had the same problem with Virgin.net a couple of years ago. I didn't have any problems with Fast4 but reading some of the threads on this site, they can also be bad. Is there anyone you can trust if you only want to pay monthly? I am in Italy at the moment and have a wonderful connection via my mobile phone - unlimited access 24/7 for £15 a month. What goes around - comes around

I would not recommend that you cancel your direct debit as a means of cancellation. Cancelling your direct debit does not cancel the contract which you have with a company it will just mean you will accumulate bad debt which will work against your credit rating.0
