I would recommend the Bissell Cleanview - was cheap, great suction and no problems so far.
It is the cylinder version with HEPA filters and came with a free hand-held version which is great for cleaning the cat beds and stairs etc..
Can't remember what it cost, but it was on offer at the time was was probably like <£50.0 -
I recently had to replace my hoover and despite having had bagless ones for over 10 years, the best hoover for me turned out to be one with bags.
Like another poster, I now have a Sebo Felix Pet. I also own a chocolate lab with cream carpets:eek: It's not cheap though!
I absolutely love it...it's the only hoover that has coped brilliantly with the dog hair, it works equally as well on hard floors as on carpets (I have both) and the bags are fabric, not paper.
It has been well worth the money, as the last few 'reasonably priced but good hoovers' haven't done the job as well and lasted less than a year!

I,ve just bought another Dyson,dc 14 origin,, direct from company £175, great.suction better than old one, carpets like new. Can't stand the cloud of dust you get when emptying a Dyson, had one for a few years.
Then I bought a proper vacuum cleaner. Go Miele Cat and Dog!
OK the bags are expensive but have a large capacity so don't need changing that often,
Only downside is that mine is built like a Tiger Tank and is a bit heavy.
PS Would not give any Dyson product houseroom, a man who can sell £300 fan heaters is beyond contempt.
Old one just give up after 16 years,dc04, hoses were getting worse, but this ones different, thicker.
Whatever you say, it,s the best seller, not for nothing.
Don,t care where it,s made. 5 year guarantee.can one buy british these days, may be assembled here. The way things are going, he will be making them here again, we are the third world now

I have a Karcher that can be used either with, or without, a bag. I would recommend using a bag if sucking up abrasive building site dust because the basket filter, IMHO, is not adequate for this. It is fine around the house.
I bought mine 12 months ago for about £100.
The only drawback is it is made by Karcher, a company with no concept of customer care nor after sales back up. But this will not be relevant if the vacuum never goes wrong, nor needs spare parts.0 -
I have two Vax cylinders, one is the replacement they sent after the first one went up the creek after a week, they are a pain in the behind. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0
