Thanks to this forum, BBC Watchdog, Rogue Traders and a multitude of unhappy customers this shop selling imitation designer dresses is now out of business! Lets hope [Removed by ForumTeam] do not reopen this or another bridal, wedding or menswear store under a different trading name.
Anyone affected please contact your wedding insurance company or credit card provider. There are other bridal companies in the local area willing to help any brides and their parties - just search Twitter and Facebook.
Their practices are not mirrored within our bridal industry but brides please look at reputable retailers who are members and have been vetted by the RBA (Retail Bridalwear Association) as they offer free insurance and peace of mind when leaving deposits for dresses.0 -
I have been told that the owners of this bridal shop are operating from home now ...... Beware0

I only today found out these guys had been found out! I posted a review online of my experience with [Removed by ForumTeam] (pasted below). I had then carried on calling dress shops and by bad luck called Amazing Brides...i told her of my experience at which point she told me she'd never heard that about [Removed by ForumTeam] before (but not told me she was his wife) and when i told her the dress I was interested in told me she had lots in her shop similar. When i arrived she had nothing similar, tried to fob off an awful dress on me and wasted my time and petrol. All makes sense now!
Here is my review...
Quoted text from the website
"The Wedding Dress Studio is packed wall to wall with discount wedding dresses and cheap bridal gowns ranging in price from £250 upwards. We have one of the largest collections of wedding dresses in West Yorkshire with sizes from 6 to 36 in our shop for you to try now."
As we walked into the "packed wall to wall" room which was no bigger than a spare bedroom I had a look round and saw that they appeared to have a lot of choice. Like most brides I have a limited budget and the £250 upwards made me feel that I would find something to interest me. I showed the man who dealt with us a picture of a dress I had seen that was similar to one I had tried on elsewhere so he would have an idea of what I was looking for. He immediately began insulting my choice of example dress mainly due to my size (I am a 16/18 although he kept referring to that as plus size in an extremely derogatory way) and began to tell me what I should be wearing. He used the word "politely" at the beginning of every sentence which made him feel free to then insult me. When I told him my budget was £200-£400 he said all of the dress he had in that range would not fit me, I would need to look at him making one for me to fit. Strange how the website doesn't specify that the dresses he has in all those sizes aren't all in the cheaper range. He then continued to use the word politely before saying that even if I lost another 20 pounds (I have already lost 20 and am on my way to the next 20) it wouldn't make a difference as I'm a big girl. So I shouldn't bother, I should let him make me a dress in the style he felt would suit me, he would not listen to anything I wanted and pretty much said I knew nothing about what suited someone who is politely plus size. He actually had only about 8-10 dresses which would have fit me and the ones he said he could make for me weren't nice at all. I told him I wanted plain and he kept pulling out dresses covered in sparkles (although he said they could make them without sparkles but I'm sure they wouldn't be any cheaper). He said girls nowadays have big bellies and don’t wear dresses or make up like they did in the old days but then want the perfect dress. I felt worthless and fat and was so shocked at the way I had been spoken to that I could actually only be polite. Needless to say I cried the whole way home and my fianc! came home to find me in tears. He called [Removed by ForumTeam] to give him some feedback and he seemed shocked that his approach wasn't appropriate.
As I came out after my appointment…and after trying on no dresses…there was a girl waiting to go in who was a couple of sizes bigger than me…I dread to think how he made her feel. I now feel like I am going to have to specify my size whenever I make any appointments to save me "wasting my time going to the wrong shops" which is how he put it. The text pasted above did not make me feel they wouldn't have anything in my size nor that I would be made to feel unattractive and hopeless. Also it didn't make it seem like it would be a small room adjoined to someone's house.
When I pointed out that I had tried a dress on like the one I showed him and it looked good he then insisted that to get it in my size would probably cost £1000.
Altogether a very unpleasant man and although I have read good reviews these girls must be thinner or richer as I'm sure had I been both he would not have been so insulting and dismissive. I am also suspicious as to how similar the good reviews sound when you read more than one…almost as if written by the same person!
As a curvy lady (I don’t consider myself plus size, I can fit into a 16 in next) I want someone who will not push their judgemental views of women onto me and feel like I don’t even have the will to look for dresses any more. This man ruined what was supposed to be a fun evening and I would say avoid at all costs if you are not a stick thin rich princess. Politely…he's an !!!.0 -
Now you listen to me botts, there's NOTHING WRONG with your size as long as you're healthy. Ignore this [Removed by ForumTeam] , he must be a bitter and twisted douche bag to have to put a bride down. I say it politely.
I hope he doesn't sit and wonder why his business is a failure.....

Yes I've been advised the new shop is called 'H&H Formal Wear' or something like that. Also, although AB has shut down, Hanson Men's Formal Wear which is next door still appears to be operating.
Just to add to my post above as well about my experience, I have to say when the dress was done it was gorgeous, I loved it, nice fabric and it fit perfectly. But I think (aside from the huge stress to get there) that I was one of the 'lucky' ones.0 -
