Anglian home improvements- help!

Anglian Home Improvements mis-sold to my mum last October. They quoted over £9k for two windows and two doors. I was there and told them this was ridiculous. He said, don't worry, we have a sale on! (I think they are a bit like DFS- always some kind of 'offer' or sale). Eventually after this and that offer and this and that voucher, it was over £4700.
I said that this was still too much, but then they asked my mum what she wanted from new windows. She told them that she wanted new ones as she got so much condensation from the old ones.

Now, I have since read -even in this company's own literature- that condensation is nothing to do with the windows, that it is environmental, and you'll get it with any windows if you are going to get it.
But at the time I did not know this so could not challenge the salesman-
He told my mum that she would not get any condensation with their windows.
It was not a throw away remark, he went into long detail about how the construction of the windows meant that no condensation would happen.

This is why mum wanted to go with this company.

Obviously she got condensation. In fact it is worse than ever. She is now getting black mould all around them.

We complained immediately. We were told that there was nothing wrong with the windows and that the promise should not have been made to us.

I have pursued this as this promise was the ONLY reason why mum bought them. We could have gone elsewhere and got cheaper.

I have called and emailed. Eventually I had a reply from someone in the CEO office, saying that they would keep on it and see that it is dealt with. But though I have chased this over and over, all I got was more assurance that it was being looked into. Now no one answers calls, emails, or messages on their facebook page.

At one point they talked about compensation and said they'd come back about how much- they never came back. THEY SACKED THE SALESMAN responsible.

They are not covered by the ombudsman.

I am at the end of my tether here. Mum has vascular dementia and it has made her so depressed that her symptoms are worse.
Personally, I have bi-polar and this stress of trying to chase them has caused me to have to take an additional medication.

What do I do next??

I've read I can't go direct to trading standards.

Help!!!!:(

Can you prove the rep said they would prevent condensation?

No but we are both witnesses and they've sacked the rep. Also, in all the correspondence they have never denied this was said, only that it was wrong to say it. They have never said, "Oh no, our salesman would never have said that." When they sacked him they said he had been a problem for some time.

  • Had a problem with Anglian? I have, and want to take them tocourt. If you have been told lies by them please contact me on anglianhunter@yahoo.co.uk.
  • If I had the time and this blog had space I'd tell you about my current nightmare with Anglian Home Improvements. I'm £60k down, product install still not finished (9 months in) - total and utter lack of care from them, they are not interested, they will not respond, they have mis-sold, poor quality installation, no customer service, constant battles over paperwork (what they install is not what is on order), constant attempts to charge me extra because their salesperson missold (he's nowhere to be seen now of course), have 'fought' constantly to get workers (all non-English btw) back on site to sort out their poor work.

I am seeking legal advice - I'm learning that I am one of several hundred active legal cases they have against them at this point in time (from insider that I know). Staff are leaving or being sacked in droves. I totally understand your frustration and yes, the stress makes you ill for sure. I have a half finished conservatory with exposed open drains and building materials all over my garden and flooring that moves 'dangerously' (and I have small kids and a pets). I have zero confidence they intend to fulfil their commitments to complete or warranty their work - am refusing to pay currently and now it's time for lawyers.

I have no idea how Anglian can get away with this - with so many unhappy customers why is a regulator not stepping in?

You are right to push back... they make it a big selling point that they 'guarantee' no inside condensation with their windows - the product (unit) will be fine - you'll find its a bad install that's the issue if you're getting condensation (I've had replacement windows 9 times in my lifetime so I know a bit)

Sorry to have to say it, but go lawyer up... citizens advice are a good starting point.

Good luck... let me know how you get on
