Billed twice?

Good afternoon people,

i recently switched the direct debit details over for my orange contract (started in NOV 12) to my regular account.
i set the direct debit to go out on the 23rd as this was the option they gave me (23rd or the 9th) chose the 23rd as this was after my paday of the 15th.
Desite this, they tool the 1st payment from the changed account on the 9th - this bounced and i was informed they would trya again on the 20th.
they called on the 22nd and took the money owed for that billing period.
i had a text this morning from my bank saying that 28.40 had been taken out.
checked my online banknig - orange have taken 28.40 out today so in theory i have been billed twice on two different days for 2 different ammounts and i do not know why.

i have not yet had chance to ring orange or even my bank to try and return the charge.

could anyone advise me why this may have happened please?
